Woke up at 11:30 this morning.....it took me a half an hour to realize that today was a treatment day......crap.

For those who are worried; don't be. I still have a lot of kidney function left and can easily hold out until Tuesday.

I'm not telling you what to do, but I'd recommend attending every session. In the end, our health benefits for it.

I know the feeling oh so well, but just take something with you that distracts you. I take my laptop with me. The time always flies by as I'm always doing something.

Geesh...  sleep is sometimes pretty powerful huh...   Bo did this (sort of) once and he was fine as well (not suggesting it of course) but there are others that would come into the center just DRAGGING and sick because they skipped.  Kidney function helps :)  Hope your feeling fine, and you can always go in to the hospital if need be???

Oh, I know that feeling - thinking you get to sleep in, and then the "OH CRAP!" when you realize you were off a day, whether it be for D or anything else.  Maybe one of these?

http://www.dayclocks.com/

The Day Clock face is divided into seven segments, and the day hand makes one revolution every 168 hours. The border lines denote midnight and the midway point is noon. It's a whole new way of looking at time.

Wonder if you could special order ones with "D"  on the right days?   ;D

I can't miss a day.. I"m one of those people who feel like crap if they miss a treatment.  I've only missed treatments twice, and it wasn't because I didn't go, it was because my fistula had been infiltrated, and was so swollen, the nurses didn't even want to try it.  So, I'd come in the next day, feeling like total crap and praying they get at least one needle

I just had the Norovirus and had to miss a day after the long weekend, four days without treatment. Lucky I felt better after having the virus I didn't notice not having d.

Okay so I always do realise that I'm lucky I can go to D cos I wouldn't be here otherwise. But it is possible to skip a session (without residual function) if you plan it (from about a week prior)

Can missing a treatment(s) prevent someone from getting on a transplant list?  My husband missed two treatments (not in a row).

He missed once because his pulse and blood pressure were too low.  He arrived at the dialysis center and they ended up calling an ambulance to take him to the ER.  They had to adjust his blood pressure meds.  By the time he was released him from the ER, it was too late for dialysis.

The second time he missed because his graft was clotted.  He had to go to a surgical center to get it declotted.

I've missed a week before, it can be done.

I wanted my dry weight put up and the manager of the unit wouldn't listen, so I showed her that actions speak louder than words. Lol

I wouldn't call those "missed treatments".  There were specific medical reasons why the treatment wasn't done and those reasons were addressed in a timely manner.  Stuff like that happens.  If your transplant center is calling you non-compliant because of missed treatments due to medical reasons, then I would find a new transplant center.

Now there was a guy at my old clinic who would miss treatments on a regular basis.  It got to the point where his machine wasn't set up for him before he arrived and he had to wait until it got set up.  He also got to have nice long discussions with the staff on why he should show up for treatments on a regular basis.

Personally, I missed one or two treatments here and there when I was in center because of travel.  But that was my decision and since I have residual kidney function, I wasn't really the worse for wear.  Now that I am home, I just adjust my weekly treatment schedule to whatever it needs to be based on my plans for the week.  As long as I get my 5x in per week and don't put the two days off next to each other, I'm fine.

I don't think the missed treatments for medical reasons would be seen as noncompliance either. Mine are scheduled though, and the Dr is okay with it. Cos I get really, really depressed if I can't have one Wednesday off, in quite some weeks. And he knows now how aggressive I become if I get depressed

Transplants require a lot of commitment and support so hospitals are not going to bother with someone who doesn't show up for appointments.  My transplant center says it's okay, but call ahead, and they will work with us.  But the funny thing is whenever I call them no one answers the phone.  I don't believe I'll get a transplant anyways because the waiting list is ten years for type "O" blood, and my other health problems will probably put a shadow on any greenlight.   I'm hoping for advances in stem cell kidneys.  I've read where they should be developed in five years.

Whamo,

10 years for type O blood?  That stinks!   :(

Do you live in the US?  If so, may I ask what state?

My husband is O+.  He had a kidney/pancreas transplant in 1999 in Southern California.  He was on dialysis for a little over 3 years before a donor became available for him.  It may have been faster because he was getting two organs.  If you are diabetic, ask about getting a panaceas, too.  Maybe it will be quicker than just getting a kidney.

We now live on the east coast.  His kidney failed after 12 years, but the pancreas is still working.  Hopefully, he will be able to get another kidney transplant.

Best wishes,
Kevin's Wife

dear Kevinswife, I don't think its down to blood-type alone. I have O+, and am on the waitinglist (in UK) for 14+ years now but have lots of anti-bodies.
