They probably didn't want to put anyone else on in case they had to evacuate.  My unit is in a nursing home too.  The fire alarm goes off all the time

May 13, 2009, went to urgent care with shortness of breath
May 19, 2009, went to doctor for severe nausea
May 20, 2009, admited to hospital for kidney failure
May 20, 2009, started dialysis with a groin cath
May 25, 2009, permacath was placed
august 24, 2009, was suppose to have access placement but instead was admited to hospital for low potassium
august 25, 2009, access placement
January 16, 2010 thrombectomy was done on access

That wouldn't surprise me.. or someone trying to sneak a smoke in the bathroom, instead of having to go outside.  The nursing home that my centre is in has 2 sections. One is for those who can't live on their own anymore because of some kind of health or mobility issue, but with a little help from the staff in the home, they can live a fairly independent life.  Then, there's the other section that has mostly infirm people who need 24 hour care.
