As some of you know I posted about my graft yesterday and how when we'd hook it up it wouldn't run but still has a good thrill, is it possible for a fistula to die and still have a nicde strongthrill?

Yes, one of my D buddies had that happen to him. His is so loud, it keeps his dog from laying against that side of his body at night. Strong thrill, but unuseable.

thanks for your quick response, the reason I bring this up is because the doctors surgeons and nephs around here seem to think as long as it's thrilling away it's still usable.

perhaps there is something that's making it not work, but it's not really dead.  Maybe it's something they can fix?

Sullidog,

Can you be more specific about your fistula... you say it has a thrill, did you listen to it with a stethescope?  Does it sound like a " whoosh whoosh" or a "whoosh whistle"  or some other variation.  It doesnt sound like your nephrologist is taking the proper steps. He should have made an appointment with the interventional radiologist to have a fistulagram to have them check it out. That or at least an ultrasound/doppler.

What is happening when you are hooked up and ready for a treatment?  Has there been any intervention since to look at it?  If not, I would suggest/demand you have it looked at with a fistulagram.... Could be a small clot or something else they can fix.

Got it resolved, the graft had to be cut open by the surgeon, it was full of scar tissue so when they'd do a fistulagram it would narrow right back off, now it's good, has no wistle, but we haven't used it yet we are going to wait until everything heals.
