WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 -- Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, has introduced legislation (H.R. 2969) to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to "provide for extended months of Medicare coverage of immunosuppressive drugs for kidney transplant patients and other renal dialysis provisions."
The bill was introduced on Sept. 20 and has 18 co-sponsors. Co-sponsors include Reps. Ron Kind, D-Wis., Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., James A. Himes, D-Conn., Tom Latham, R-Iowa, Christopher H. Smith, R-N.J., Mike Rogers, R-Mich., Robert Hurt, R-Va., C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., Leonard Lance, R-N.J., Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., David B. McKinley, R-W.Va., Dale E. Kildee, D-Mich., Janice D. Schakowsky, D-Ill., Dan Boren, D-Okla., Fortney "Pete" Stark, D-Calif., Jay Inslee, D-Wash., and John Lewis, D-Ga.
The legislation was referred to the House Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means committees.
