I have a question....my hubby has psoriasis. He was taking the Humera shots 2x a month until he was diagnosed with ESRD (thanks to routine bloodwork for the shots). His dermatologist is very reluctant to allow him to take the shots anymore & has given him topical ointments & creams to use instead....none of which work at all. He is so sore from the arthritis & constant insatiable itching associated with psoriasis....says he'd be ok with having one problem or the other, but both psoriasis & ESRD at the same time, he doesn't know how much he can tolerate it.
My question is, is anyone out there battling with psoriasis also? Any possible ideas we can run across the derm? Any & all opinions/thoughts/etc are greatly appreciated!!

Is the psoriasis related to the ESRD? I don't know if there is any link....I'm just wondering? I had severe itching problems related to my extremely high phosporus levels but once that became more stable, the severe itching went away. I was itching so bad I clawed myself and drew blood.    :(

No, it's not related. He had psoriasis long before we even knew about his kidney problems (kidney related to birth defect). I read somewhere in the forum about the itching you described....but his is nothing related to that....however the large spots that used to appear on his back (where kidneys are located), don't show up anymore during the severe outbreaks (that are constant now without the right medication)....but the itching is just as bad, if not worse, most days....although, some to think of it, you bring up a very good point....he itches even worse (if you can imagine that) when his phos. level is even slightly more out of whack than usual. Oh happy days!  :banghead;

I have severe psoriasis as well, since the age of 7. I am currently taking Humira and Soriatane for my psoriasis and my dermatologist and nehp agree that the benefits of staying on the medicine is better than going off. Maybe you should look at a different dermatologist? Or maybe get his neph to sign off on it. There is no medical correlation between Humira  and it's impact on renal disease. We are unsure of how much is removed from dialysis so we'll see. I hit the chair for the first time Monday and I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck!
