I am a bit confused. My Neph. said my blood pressure was low because I am too active. I was thinking we were supposed to stay as active as we can. I am the only one to ride a motorcycle to dialysis, and am constantly on the move at home, on my off days that is. I hope he meant Because I am so active.

Maybe a change in bp meds is order if your taking them either in type, time, frequentcy. I was active during dialysis also and never heard that. I use to ride my bicycle to dialysis, walk, or drive. It took many tries to get my bp stable and now I am on two different types. One for the am and the other type in the pm.

Im not the one ON dialysis, but, i asked my dr why my blood pressure was so low all the time and he said it's because athleates and active people are more likley to have lower blood pressure.

Yeah, I wouldn't take that as a suggestion to slow down - just his acknowledging that your activity is going to keep your bp lower than the average, more sedentary D patient's.

I am very active as well and I have to adjust my BP meds because of the amount of exercise I do.  People who do no exercise tend to have high blood pressure and when they start exercising their blood pressure gets better (lower).  As my blood pressure improved with more exercise, less salt, I just dropped off my meds.  I use to be on four BP meds now I am only on one and my blood pressure is pretty normal.  If I stopped exercising I think it would be no time before I had to up the meds again.  Keep active.  Keeps you heart healthy.  Lower blood pressure is a great thing.  Keep hydrated though because too low is not so good.

perhaps I shouldn't get active, then... *L*

My bp is relatively normal.  Sometimes it goes up for a few weeks, and sometimes it goes down for a few weeks, but it always levels off again.  I'm not overly active, as I spend more than my fair share of time online, and I haven't been on meds in years.  I think that if I got active and my bp dropped, it would scare me

I play competitive table tennis matches 3 days per week for an average of 4 hours each time. I also exercise in between if I can get up the energy to do so. About a month ago my meds and labs got off and I felt horrible and couldn't compete or exercise for 3 weeks. I gained 12 lbs and my blood pressure after nocturnal PD was up to appx 150/80. I'm back exercising and I've lost 6 lbs already and my morning BP today was 110/65.

For me at least, if I don't stay active I get fat(ter) and my BP goes way up.

I was walking for a while, but I stopped doing that after I nearly got hit by a car.  Since I have visual issues, I was relying on my hearing to tell me when a car was coming, but that day I couldn't tell the difference between the wind, the cars on the highway outside my subdivision, or a car coming up behind me.  It scared me so much that I haven't gone out again

If we lived close to each other, I could teach you from what I have learned while cane training on how to cross traffic using hearing. I would say it is a positioning technique along with hearing to use traffic that is paraell to you to use as a spacial guide. Hard to explain, easier to discuss and show at the same time.
