age availability for transplant

I am 78. One neph says go on transplant list (no donor) and one says no. any ideas???

First, you have to find out if you can be admitted to the transplant list.   If no, there is nothing to think about.   If yes, proceed to thinking.

I'd let the transplant team make their recommendations as well. They should have the best advice.

You have nothing to lose being evaluated for transplant except your spare time. Where I go the first step was going to a 2 hour presentation with other people considering transplant and a subsequent individual appointment on a later date. At no point are you obligated for anything. In other words, you have nothing to lose and much to gain if only an education about the process.

The hospital I refer patients to is MUSC in Charleston, SC.  There is no age limit and they have transplanted patients up to 82 years of age.  Most doctors will refer for transplant and let the transplant center deny if they are going to deny the patient.  I hope this helps!
