Loves his allotment but too tired to dig!

« on: September 18, 2011, 10:17:22 AM »

Hello... Getting very concerned now. Hubby has been on PD for 2 1/2 years and has now  had fistula done. Saw surgeon last week and he gave the OK for heamo to go ahead ASAP. BUT we have to wait until there is a space at the renal unit for him. Don't know how long this will be. His blood results came back last week with gfr 4, creatinine 1202!!!!!!!!! He feels dreadful and PD is not doing it's job properly anymore. All he does is sleep, sleep, sleep. (Except at night when his legs drive him barmy!!).
Has anyone else had results like these and not yet started Haemo?

Is there a hospital that he can be admitted at while waiting for a hd center?
I did this before I found an incenter chair.

hello, Sullidog, No, I don't think it works like that here in the UK. We have the main renal unit which is where he is waiting to attend when a mspace is free and 2 satellite units which are much smaller but nearer to home. Just have to wait until a machine is free.

When i was on pd earlier this year, my creatine levels reached pretty high, around 1000.  After I told my doctor to go ahead with hemo, the pace at which I was put on hemo was extremely quick.  The central line was put in (fistula was put in 2-2.5 weeks later) and before i knew it, i began home hemo training.  Everything happened awfully quick for me.

Oh if only!!!! We have now been told that home HD will be a long way off!!! There are patients at our hospital who have been trained and are ready to go it alone at home but as usual with the UK, there are severe financial problems within the National Health Service and the money is just not there, or rather, is being spent elsewhere. I have just written to the head of haemo nursing and also the Chief Executive of the hospital and will be eager to hear what they say. After that, if I get no joy, I will write to our MP and the press. Rich is so depressed about it he just wants to give up. :'(
