Watch that orange juice, Dan. It's high in potassium.

Buy some sugary candy, dan.  Smarties or sweet tarts work well.  They are cheaper than glucose tablets; they taste better, and they won't add fluid when you don't need it.

I ate a couple bites of pickles.  bp is up to 129/69 but now sugar is down to 52.  This has been a miserable up and down day.  I'm afraid to lie down.  drinking apple juice.  no orange in the house.

What's going on with your blood sugar? Like jbeany said, sugary candy 'for bs crashes won't add unnecessary fluid. Rolando likes marshmallows to start, followed by fruit or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He will drink mango juice (or any other sweet drink) along with the sweets if the crash is bad enough.

Just a side comment... you mentioned the renal diet elsewhere and oj (and peanut butter) are mentioned in this thread. These things are high in potassium and are not a part of a renal diet. That said, common sense and moderation are the key. If you are crashing, have that orange juice or pb&j sandwich or snickers bar. It will save your life.

Even on a renal diet you can have almost anything (except starfruit - never, ever eat starfruit!!! It contains a neurotoxin not readily eliminated by dialysis), just don't overdo the bad things - things high in potassium and match you phosphorus intake to your binder intake.

Getting the heck out of town.

Everything settled out around 8 PM and I took a four hour nap.  I believe blood sugar was related to not enough food.  There is way to muc and too many things to eat on the diet the hospital gave me.  The dietician at the center didn't give me one yet.  I don't know about my potassium, etc. other than its been normall in my last few blood workups.  I have to learn what dialysis does to it?

For today I'm going to skip bp meds as I did for today.  Monday I'll called the doctor.

The info about peanut butter, etc.:  Please continue with that as you think of something.  I will learn.  I did eat a little peanut butter when the sugar got to low.  I always have.  But that was the lowest sugar I've ever had.

You will soon learn "damned if you do, damned if you don't" on the road with dialysis.    :yahoo;

I do understand that stubbone BP      I take atenolol,  lisinopril, cozaar, clonidine, amlodipine and I still am having BP problems..... seems like its always around 150/100.....  but   hey my pulse rate is down in the 70s now     that was always up in the 90s.      I agree with the machine...  I can go into the doctor and have a person take my BP and they will say   oh  125/80    and I go really.....   have someone else take it and then their reading is 146/98......  I guess I believe in the auto machine  the most......some of those people  just dont really take it  they just go thru the motions and write something down......  sad......

It's not just salt that raises your blood pressure; it's sugar.  I have chronic HBP, but my current drug protocol works pretty well:  Nimodipine 60mg. 2X; Nexium 40MG 1X; Lisinopril 20mg; and Hydralazine 25mg. X 3 X 2 times a day; and Bystolic 10mg, 2X a day.
