Leg cramps and 'Quinnine Sulphate'

Hi Guys
For those who want to come up to speed on this please go to
http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=23236.0
As stated I went to see the Neph today and mentioned that I was having bad leg cramps at night. She prescribed Quinnine Sulphate tablets. Nothing new here. But whilst I was in the office she looked it up on Google (I'm going to call her Dr. Google from now on) so after the appointment I thought that I would do the same and came ac cross this link
http://www.oshmanlaw.com/pharmaceutical_litigation/quinine.html
Now I'm not one to scaremonger but I was quite shocked to see this and wondered , especially from the American members, has any one see this or had negative feedback about this drug? I'm from the UK so the laws are a bit different in this country. It certainly makes me question if it's safe to take.
Have any of you taken this and did it cause any problems for you or anyone you know? If this is not allowed on this site I apologise and please remove the post, as I said I'm not wanting to scaremonger.
Again thanks for you replies in advance.

I took it years ago for leg cramps. No side effects, but it didn't do anything for my leg cramps, either. I eventually had bypass surgery, called a fem-fem and a fem-pop, which worked wondres. A friend of mine had angioplasty in his legs and that worked also.

No problems when I took it.
But I also recommended tonic water, which has less than the pill, so you can't overdose that easily.
Also the link you provided is that of a law firm which seeks to make money from medical accidents, not a good place for medical advice.

That, Zach, is a good reply, as I said I'm from the UK so we have different laws here.

I get cramps in my toes at night, always have since starting hemo. I tried tonic water, but couldnt stomach the taste of it, even with a lot of lime added. When talking to my Dr. she said buy some magnesium, that could be the problem. I still get toe cramps.

Too bad you don't like tonic water. Lots of us (used to) like it with gin and lime and ice!
Quinine is an old remedy. Used for symptoms of malaria, too.

My doctor told me that drinking tonic water would help with my leg cramps. I can tell a difference on the days that I don't drink it!

Tonic water is the go in our house, SWMBO takes is and she hasn't got CKD, just gets cramp sometimes. The other thing to consider is is that, for me at least, cramp is always associated with going under my dry weight or very, very occasionally too much fluid off too quickly.
