Sick, twisted, politically incorrect and freakin ‘sweet, the animated series of adventures of the Griffin family. The show was canceled in 2000, but a huge amount of DVD sales convinced Fox to bring back new episodes.

The hit animated sitcom Family Guy Seth MacFarlane plotting increased (American Dad, The Cleveland Show and the winner). The first show was recorded in the presence of Fox in 1999, but was postponed shortly after a “dead period.” Greedy and grades are your friends, and he had canceled the show Survivor in 2002.

Family Guy DVD was issued in mid 2003, and boost sales. Parallel to these ratings, and high reruns on Adult Swim, the show picked up again, and the new season May 1, 2005.

Family Guy on a rotation spot, especially Peter,, fat obnoxious, idiotic father finally do something for his family. Lois, his wife, did his best to keep things under control. Born into a rich family (Pewterschmidts), Lois can be elegant at certain times, and another Peter Wild. He is a stay-at home mom who teaches piano at leisure time. It was not a crowd “, but people have been known to set themselves on fire just to escape from the watch. Chris, is a 14 year old son a little slow, but brilliant artistic mind. Chris has no problem supporting, but meeting girls is somewhat of a problem for him. Stewie, a diabolical baby evil, super-intelligent, with a priority to kill his mother Lois. And, of course, Brian, Griffin sippin martini, dry-in. Intelligent, talking dog, who secretly loves Lois. Brian get a good night at the opera and intelligent woman, but sometimes a dog’s instincts, the better for it.

Family Guy special comedy brings to the table. He is most famous flashbacks to show continuous nonsensible characters doing different things that do not relate to an entirely different picture of the situation. Back to the television broadcast in 2005, will load the new critics. The most frequent complaint that the radical change in the personality of Stewie. matricide ideas are always going, the child express emerging sexuality gay. While this is only a matter of opinion. We were fortunate that only Family Guy …

Family Guy Season 9 Episode 8-New Kidney in Town
Episode Summary:After years of drinking, Peter needs a kidney transplant;
Really struggled to read this - was it originally in another language?

Anyhow, I looked this up to make sure this was not some sort of error or something and they really meant liver. No, they are serious - drinking too much leads to kidney transplant, while leaving the liver unscathed! This is news to me!

Sheesh, how tedious. I think I've seen one episode of Family Guy and was not amused, but this truly irritates the hell out of me. First of all, why does it always have to be the the lazy, slobby, idiot who goes into organ failure and the none-too subtle message is you know, they really deserved this. I am aware it's considered gravely uncool to criticize shows like this, but enough already. Stop passing judgment on people who don't have a voice - it really is not funny in the least.

I'd watch a Glenn Beck marathon before I would touch this show. (Although i would be sure to enlist a friend to abduct and deprogram me after any such marathon!)

I find FG absolutely hilarious myself, but yeah the whole over drinking -->> kidney failure thing has been done before (Simpsons). Still their take on it may be interesting. I will be watching, but then again I always watch Family Guy (their "Star Wars" takeoffs are something else! I nearly lost my kidney laughing so hard at "It's a trap!")

everyone's different I guess. It is a certain mindset to enjoy a show like that.

I would love to hear your impression of it once you see the show, Richard.

I don't watch any animated programs anymore, not since The Simpsons became unwatchable some 10 years ago - never watched Family Guy nor South Park (which has me sitting in ignorance of Western pop culture to a certain extent, I'll admit). I have read a fair bit on South Park (that's not as hopelessly humourless as it sounds!) and I see what they're trying to do, and I fully support it, I just do not appreciate the gross-out portion of their message. I must be the only person in America who feels this way. Absolutely we need people like them who challenge politicians and religion.

I vaguely recall Homer receiving a transplant, and not thinking anything of it because it was back before I really identified as a transplant patient, and I had not become so politicized. It angers me, though - for the misinformation, and more so for the inherent judgment in it. Why isn't Marge or the wife in Family Guy needing a transplant? People already think if you need a transplant, you must have done something really wrong. It just is not funny to me, and it makes my life more annoying without, I am guessing, affecting theirs at all. I was treated like I had done something wrong, despite being a child. People in America, and my screwed-up parents especially, are not especially kind to the ailing as it is. I hope you enjoy it, I hope you find it very funny, but I suspect that going in with such a stupid premise would ruin the whole thing for me. Part of what makes controversial humour funny is that it rings true, and they've already botched that.

This from The Onion I did find funny, but anyone not in a good place with regards receiving a donated organ may not want to watch it. http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2317885/7280944

Well I finally watched this episode. A mixed bag in my view.

It was actually more serious than the run of the mill episode - and perhaps rightly so as it raised some key issues involved with kidney failure, dialysis and transplantation. However things were glossed over in some respects, and other avenues not taken up (from the purely kidney related point of view). Also some things were fairly inaccurate - for example, the suggestion was that Peter would wait only "months" for a potential donor. We all know it's much, much longer for the average person.

However I thought while the setup to Peter's kidney failure was pretty lame (he mixes red bull with gasoline and drinks it, which apparently killed his kidneys???) the actual kidney part of the show was reasonable. They had a reasonably animated dialysis machine, though the process to hook him up was basically one hand movement from the doctor attaching two parallel tubes to an unmarked spot on the arm, and curiously no blood was actually shown running (ie: tubes looked clear). However the idea was got accross that it was no fun sitting there. Then the idea of missing treatment was brought up (Peter wants to stay in the bar, with a huge beer I might add (!), and watch "Charles in Charge" rather than doing Dialysis at 3 - he actually turns yellow though and colapses after throwing up blood). They missed a chance to talk about paired exchange when his wife is said to be not a match for him "but you do match the dying girl next door" - her response is "let's focus on OUR sick family doc" - they could have mentioned the idea of paired exchange at this point, which is where I thought they were going, but they shot it down with a rather selfish oneliner. However they then redemmed themselvres with exploring issues of donation - Peter's wife, Lois, does not want the kids tested to donate, and Brian (the dog - yes I know!) offers to donate to Peter if he is a match (it is later said that he is with the unrealistic catch being that his dog kidneys are too small so they would have to take both, ie: kill him, to save his master - this part just confuses the whole issue for the viewer but creates an emotional core to the episode). I think it explored, in a few minutes, just some of the complex issues involved in deciding to live donate to a loved one and I think at the very least would have gotten anyone watching knowing someone enduring dialysis to hopefully THIINK about the issues and the benefits.

In the end the situation is resolved quite well, Peter gets his donation and Brian does not have to die. This then ties in with the "B" story of the episode relating to a story written by the kids about "Hope" and a visit of Barrack "Mike" Obama, dressed as some kind of Elvis (!) at the very end of the show. There's also quite a funny gag involving Drew Carey(guest cameo) when Peter, hyped on Red Bull, goes on "The Price is Right."

Ovrerall, like I said, a mixed bag of an episode for mine. I do feel that the kidney issues were generally handled reasonably well, and putting my advocate hat on I figure if even a few people watch that and give the various issues raised, even in a comedy setting, some thought and possibly change their view on the matter, then that can only be a thing for good. It could have been much better, but it also couild have been much, much worse in my view. I rate it as better than the Simpsons episode that dealt with kidney failure.

Thanks for the review, Richard. Sounds very strange and hard to follow (perhaps a victim of trying to go into too many directions at once) but I'm glad that they at least showed a dialysis machine.

The part about the drinking still bothers me. Again, at the risk of sounding utterly humourless, here we go: Red Bull and gasoline strongly suggests a hopeless alcoholic. Then he continues to go to his local and gets a kidney transplant regardless. This does not reflect how careful doctors try to be in allocating vital organs - whether you agree with their methods or not, and I frequently do not. I know it's all silliness in the end, but I do not like to be represented this way. If they were going to go serious, and it sounds like they decided to give it a try, it would have been so much more effective to have the wife or one of the kids go into kidney failure. I agree that the line about the 'dying girl' was wasted. It sounds like they came so close to actually making a number of great points, including paired exchange, and that the life you improve may be a slobby, self-absorbed former drunk, true, but it may be a little girl who is barely surviving dialysis. (Now why does that story seem familiar.... :sarcasm;)

Anyhow, I appreciate the time you took to write this out. Now I won't have to watch (I don't particularly like the show) but I can still see how dialysis is being portrayed. From what little I remember about the Simpsons episode, I would have to agree that this one sounds far superior.

I think the big problem with a show like this (and even The Simpsons) is that they are foremost comedy shows, and FG in particular has always a bent for the satirical and poking fun and both current events and pop culture (eg: Obama and The Price is Right not to mention the crap they gave "Charles in Charge" - they ripped apart the opening credits and made comments about the actors and 80's clothes etc in a very MST3K kind of way). In the context of a show like this it's actually quite strange to me that they tried to tackle a serious issue, and actually semed to have parts of the show that were utterly serious in the intention to get you to think about the issues, but then would go off into silliness (ie: that a dog could donate...).

I mean you're not ever going to get an accurate or truly realistic treatment off such issues outside of a show like House, ER or that recent show around transplants... what was it.. Three Rivers? Certainly a longer drama show.

I can't help but wonder if one of the shows writers has been recently touched by either kidney failure or donation issues.

btw Peter Griffin, the main character, like Homer Simpson has always been a bit of a raging alcoholic - so that he does dumb things like he did in the episode is no surprise.

The full episode "New Kidney in Town" on Family Guy can be viewed here http://www.fox.com/familyguy/full-episodes/

I just typed all my thoughts and the page timed out so here is my reactions in a nutshell:
Red Bull: Bad.
Homemade Red Bull with kerosene: Really bad, kids, don't try this at home!
Dialysis: Bad. So bad you'll kill your kids pet for 2 kidneys rather than wait a few months.
Living donors: Rock!
