I haven't seen a groin access in over 2 years since the last D I was at. I wasn't sure if was a graft or a fistula. I think they are very painful because the 3 patients that had one were always the ones yelling out loudly. One patient was always in tears. I felt so very sorry for them.

As I was coming out the Nephrologist office, I thought the sky was falling.
Knew I was going on dialysis since November 1999.
Had a fistula put in January 2000.
Been on 4-1/2 hour dialysis since August 28, 2001. (They took out 35Kg that single week)

Maria hasbeen on hemodualysis since January, 2005

I've read about groin accesses, and they just sound dreadful.

 :o Ouch, I couldn't imagine that though I did have a catheter placed in my groin but they didn't have to access it with needles...

I'm guessing it's a last resort spot for access, when they've run out of other places.  I hope I never ever get to that point
