hate the world ..well my world ..my dialysis world. I hate everything that goes with it . But today i counted my blessings , alright we are on borrowed time , living artificially really, with tough restrictions , but we have positive things we can do , things we take for granted , like walking about , albeit ,slow, wearily, some with a stick, but we can do it. We have 2 arms , ok so one is restricted during dialysis and protected when not on it , but we can use both arms. As i say i counted my blessings today for as i was coming out of a shop a young guy was coming in ..only in his 20's i would say , with a big bright smile on his face. How he smiled was beyond me ,because this young guy was in a wheelchair , both legs and one arm missing , this young guy was a casualty of the war thats going on ..and i would like to pay tribute to him and all the others out there, it made me think im lucky after all .

Amen to that, KS...
I may be in a wheelchair, but I've got greater abilities than disabilities!.... I've got a lot more than many...

Yes, KS, Amen to that. No way can I imagine being stuck in that stinking hot desert with all those crazy people throwing bombs and stuff at you and not being able to shower or sleep in a bed. Not to mention people around you dying. Yes, we are blessed to be alive and semi-whole, and living in freedom.

I agree with what you are saying. There are so many people out there worse off than we are and ok we have our ups and downs so yes we also count our blessings.

KS, you have hit it right on with this. The quickest way for me to get over a self-pity party is to look around at others who have a lot more challenges in daily living than I do. Thanks for reminding us of this!

I agree with everyone. I was pretty depressed when I started hemodialysis a couple of months ago. Then I realized that I could have been stricken with something a lot worse--like terminal cancer. Right now, I'm still able to work (whenever I decide to start again) and I still have my health (other than the fact that I have to be tethered to a dialysis machine for 12 hours each week).
Since I've been on HD, I've lost 50 pounds (of excess weight), and amazingly, my blood sugar and A1C have consistently been normal. Now that I'm consistently getting my blood cleaned, lots of people even tell me that I look better than I have in years. I hate dialysis, but it's keeping me alive, so I'll deal with it.

a very wise kidney specialist (and a pioneer in the field of dialysis in canada) once told me a short story whenever i talked about how crappy i felt.. when a patient compalined about having no shoes, he introduced him to a man with no feet... mission accomplished
