I'm talking about the kind that you find in frozen dinners, and also the instant kind you can buy in the store.
I have checked the labels on the frozen dinners and it does not tell me anything about the potassium in the mashed potatos, is there any in these types of mashed potatos? How about the instant ones do they also have potassium as well? Or is this something that they are hiding from me:)
How about the phosferous, how much?

May 13, 2009, went to urgent care with shortness of breath

May 20, 2009, started dialysis with a groin cath
May 25, 2009, permacath was placed
august 24, 2009, was suppose to have access placement but instead was admited to hospital for low potassium
august 25, 2009, access placement
January 16, 2010 thrombectomy was done on access

 think the general rule of thumb is that the more you can prepare it yourself the better.

Diagnosed Nov 2007 with Multiple Myeloma.
By Jan 2008 was in end stage renal failure and on haemodialysis.
Changed to CAPD in April 2008.  Now on PD with a cycler.  Working very part time - teaching music.  Love it.  Husband is Paul (we're both 46), daughter Molly is 13.

Keep to fresh potato. peel, cut and soak in water before cooking. I'd say the store bought stuff would have loads of bad stuff. Esp pre made mash potato as it would be high in salt.

I agree with JennyC  Just soak your fresh potatoes and you will leach about 1/2 of the potassium out.  Still only have one serving.

Once in a while I do have some French fries at a restaurant and ask for them to be not salted.

    Food in frozen diners contains high amounts of sodium too.  Something to keep in mind.
