MAN!!!  Life Sucks and then you die!!!

My own BROTHER is not a match for me. He called me today and said that they told him that since I've already had a transplant I have built up antibodies. My antibodies don't match with him.....whatever!!!

Last time I was in there those people told me my antibodies shouldn't be a problem. Well apparently they are a problem.

Very, very sorry.  It is such a frustratin process, isn't it?  But there are many things to consider.  The clinic might not have thought he was a good candidate for other reasons and that is just the reason they gave.  Did they give him his labs or anything?  I have a feeling that's what happened with my 1st donor tested, my brother.  I think they might have gotten the impression that he was not fully into donating due to him having two young children, recently divorced and finanically strained.  Because otherwise I think he would have been a great donor.  In my mind since day one of knowing I would some day need a transplant in my heart I always thought it would be from him.  But he's a strange bird at times and I think they just saw that, too.  And looking back it would have been very stressful on him.  He was just starting a new job, as well, and being out the 2-3 weeks would have put a huge strain on him.  I'm very happy with the decision.....now.

Sorry about the disappointment. We have to keep in mind the Transplant team has all the information and knows what is best. I hope another opportunity comes along for you.

This antibody boat we are in is getting very crowded!   I am sorry BrightSky.  The disappointment is so hard.  Hang in there.  Things have to get better.

BS - this is very difficult for you and I'm sorry you've had another disappointment/setback. The PRA count being higher because of your previous transplant is always going to complicate things sadly. My own brother is a 0/6 match for me - somehow I think he's more disappointed than I am (he's exploring an ABO incompatible transplant option at the moment but looks like this could take the best part of 12 months).

I guess at this point all you can do is think that there's a good reason for this and his kidney was not for you. The right one hopefully will come along. We know plenty of folks who have had successful second and even third transplants, so hang in there ok?
