I have a tendency to cramp, so I usually drink water right after I weigh-in, so I won't get completely dry and cramp at the end.  But I don't drink much, probably 4-6 ounces at the max.  I always have a bottle of water available after dialysis in case I cramp on the way home.  Water usually fixes the problem, although not without a few minutes of pain.

if you're cramping at the end of treatment they are pulling too much fluid!

I'm not a health professional, but here's my experience  My center forbids drinking during dialysis and has no drinking fountains in any area I've been to.  According to its literature, drinking (and eating) are forbidden since the then-ongoing dialysis won't remove the fluid, phosphorus or potasium one is taking in and it will therefore sit in the body until the next session.

The only time I've been offered fluid is post-procedure bullion when my bp is to low.  Salt + water = increase in bp.

I suppose every centre is different, however during my 3hr 15 mins (I think that will do) I get 2 cups of tea, butties and biscuits. In Portugal, the Netherlands and Spain you even get soup. If you calculate how much you will drink during a session, you add that amount to the amount of liquid you have to take of. Some people do 5 hours which would be a bit of a problem without eating or drinking.

OK, here's another theory I have:

For those who still urinate, the nurses don't want to take the patients off the machines to go to the bathroom, so they don't le them drink!
OR - don't want them to eat so they won't need to have a bowel movement.

I see dummies drinking coke during dialysis's all the  time :sir ken;

This was common practice when I was a teenager.  One fellow always had a can of pepsi during dialysis.  Although, he didn't eat at all, so they may have just let it slide

I generally have something on the way home.  We usually stop at a Tim Horton's for a French Vanilla Cappuccino, though I haven't done it in the last week
