Our first New's Year's together - A new beginning
Lost my mom last week

I just got back from my second trip to Pennsylvania in two weeks. My husband and I wen up to spend Thanksgiving with my family and got back home the Saturday after. I got a call at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday that my mother passed away. It was a bit of a surprise, since I had just seen her and she looked good.
She battled lung cancer and emphysema for almost a year, but I didn't think she was at the point of leaving us yet. So we packed up the NxStage and all the supplies and headed back up to PA on Thursday. We had a beautiful service, mom wanted us to celebrate, not mourn, and then headed back home on Sunday. That makes 4 12-hour drives in two weeks.
Now, I'm tired and trying to get back to everyday life. I can't believe Christmas is coming so soon! It snowed a little while we were up there and it looked so pretty. It felt like Christmas up there, but then we came back to Atlanta and it's in the 50"s. Normally, I'm thrilled about the winters here, but I think there should be a rule that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day should be in the 30's with just enough snow to cover the grass and trees and not the roads. Then everyone could have a picture perfect day!
It was very strange walking into my mom's room (assisted living at retirement home) and not seeing her there. It was also sad to go through her things and decide what to do with them. It will be strange not talking to her at Christmas and on her birthday. However, life goes on and I know she is in a better place. Also, she didn't have to suffer the agony of a long drawn out decline. She went peacefully, just the way she wanted.
I hope when my time comes, I can do the same.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Moms are very special to us and when it's their time to go it is hard for us. You will be in my prayers.

I'm so sorry too to hear your mother has passed. My mother had cancer & although she was in her last stages it was still a suprise and shock when she did die.The time is never right even though we're expecting it. I remember for some time still picking up the phone to dial her as we talked everyday. It was so weird that no one would be on the other end. The same with my grandmother. That's a lot of driving and travel sure can be tiring. Not experienced with the NX stage, but I guess they're pretty great to have. I wish for special blessings for you & your family this holiday season. You mom is surely with you in spirt. Feel her! Hugs, Carolyn

I am so very sorry. Losing a mother is so hard. I felt like an orphan when mine died. I still look at cards and gifts for her and it has been 5 years. I am glad you had Thanksgiving together. That will be a nice memory. Christmas will be different and difficult. I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and wishes. It was strange not to pick up the phone and let her know we got back home safely and I know Christmas will be a little sad this year.

Thanks, Dan. The one thing that comforts me is that we were always great friends and did a lot of things together. She also got the chance to have a great relationship with all my kids. She really enjoyed life.
