disposable dialator

I had to use a disposable dialator for a couple of days because I was having problems with blood clots. I think it made me itch. This was a deep severe itch. The itch got better with some large doses of benidryl. That makes me think it was an allergic reaction to something. The only thing I can think of is the disposable dilator. Has any one had this kind of reaction to one of these?

Yes, that happens. You need to ask for the hypo allergenic filter.

Also, have it rinsed with 2 liters of saline prior to use. You had a "first use reaction". the saline will help a lot.

This may have been the cause of my Moms reaction in dialysis. While in the hospital with congestive heart failure, they put her in dialysis. The attending neph requested they rinse the dialyzer with "3" liters of saline before dialyzing Mom. She had no reaction.
The other thing they did was change the bath from 1 to 3 because her potassium was at 3.7. Now we don't know if it was the change in the bath or the additional 2 rinses of the dialyzer. We will wait and see
