 I need help. I get answers but they do not help. Since starting dialysis in March my already thin hair has been coming out.  I was told to take zinc but it has not done much. Any opinions or anyone who has had the same problem?

This is quite a common problem for us.  I use Nioxxin shampoo and conditionner which my hair stylist thinks works well.  I'm not sure but at least it felt as if I was doing something.  I think that the state of losing hair is really a significant reflection of our generally elevated stress level, no matter how well we might think we're "coping".

Have you introduced yourself in the Intro section Grandma Kathy?  We'd love to welcome you officially.

Yup, been there, done that.  Lost 5 inches in length, and my scrunchies now go around my pony tail 5 times instead of 2.  Maybe some protein shampoo might help.

Do try the Nioxin shampoo, I use it and my hair does seem thicker and much more manageable. It comes in 3 parts, cleanser, conditioner and a spray of some sort. Works!!!

Hallo, Grandma Kathy,
Whenever I am under great stress
and suffer a flare-up, I loose hair
and then, when things calm down and
I am in recovery from the flare-up,
my hair grows back again as well.
I do hope your hair grows back soon
and I send you all my sympathy. :grouphug;

Mix beer and eggs with a good conditioner and it works wonders.  Two eggs, half a can of beer and enough conditioner to make a good creamy paste.  Apply with a pastry brush, leave on for 10 minutes, comb through and then rinse and apply a little more conditioner and rinse again.

I would not be taking anything like sinc...... kindneys have to get rid of it.

Henna powder... (From India... we get in here in SA) mixed with buttermilk works for me (into a paste)..... and it colours your hair as well...... you get diff colours.

Ask your doc what your ferritin levels are.  Every time mine drop, my hair thins out.  Once I get a dose of it during dialysis, I see the results in my thicker hair.
