positive vibes....I need some positive vibes!!

« on: July 11, 2009, 02:47:45 PM »

My mom has a pacemaker. She's had a triple bypass about 3 years ago. When she was diagnosed with Kidney failure this year. Her doctor did not give the option of a transplant. He said that due to her heart she was not a candidate. I dont know for sure if they ran all the appropriate tests in order to find that out. I just read from the Stanford Medical Website that there are all these tests that needs to be ran in order to find out whether or not a patient is a condidate. To this day she is not on the transplant list. I just want to know of anyone else has experience something similar to what we are going through.

I am not satisfied with 1 doctors opinion. Unless I am absolutely sure that a transplant is not an option, I cannot just sit back and let them take advantage of us not having enough knowledge. Any input is greatly appreciated!!

My dad had a pacemaker and did Hemo but he was never a candidate for transplant because of cancer of both kidneys
I have no words of wisdom but strongly encourage you to ask these questions to the doc
Just keep asking questions
All my love to you both

Rule of Thumb, if doc is not part of the transplant team, don't heade the advice. To truely find out the answer, you should go to a transplant hospital seminar. There you can ask questions and find out more information and then get an appointment to start preliminary test for qualifications. Yes we have to go through several test, but it is for the best interest of the patient, donor, and their time in the operating room. Each transplant center has a little different approach on who they qualify for their center, so always good to investigate more than 1 center, especially regarding information on technique, medication, survival rates, how many they have done, and so on.

My hubby has a pacemaker and recently talked with a transplant doctor.  The doctor was concerned about other things but not the pacemaker.
