Family advertises on the internet to save daughter's life

By David Whisenant - bio l email

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - It is an internet plea to save the life of a mother and grandmother who used to live in Salisbury.

Encouraged by friends, the family of Lisa Wade Thomas has turned to the internet, buying a display ad on the web site for the Salisbuiry Post.

"We were trying to get our message out to everybody in the community about my mother's situation," said Lisa's son Matt Thomas.

The situation for 47 year old Lisa Thomas is dire. She has a disease called nephritis that causes the kidneys to shut down.

Lisa has already had one transplant, but her body rejected the organ.

Lisa's sister Angela Melton and Lisa's son both work in the family's hearing aid business, but right now their priority is saving Lisa's life.

That's why they, along with Lisa's parents Lee and Marie Wade,  took the unusual step of placing an ad on the newspaper web site.

The ad links  to another site called Angels For Life.  That site has more information about Lisa and her need for a live donor kidney.

Lisa's family says time is of the essence because Lisa's condition is getting worse the longer she has to wait.

"She's right now having trouble walking, she can barely get up and down the steps, the dialysis is causing her legs to wither away, she's probably lost a good 60 to 70 pounds since she started all of this," added Thomas.   "Urgency is of the utmost importance."

The family is even willing to pay the bills if they can find a match. They say it's a small price to pay to save a life that even in sickness is inspiring.

If you're interest to learn more about what is required, we've linked the Angels For Life web site to our site, just go to wbtv.com and look under All Access.
