Diagnosed with ESRD-November 2006
I have had 2 fistuals-neither one worked
I have had 2 grafts the last one finally "took"
I had 3 different catheters from Nov. 06 - Dec. 08
Got on the transplant list - Halloween Day 2008

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.    I BELIEVE THIS TO BE SOOOOO TRUE!

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

  Yep it goes away and the sweating begins.  I lost my hot flashes pre-dialysis, now I have them back.  Anyone hear me screaming?

I admit it, I am an HRT addict.  I've tried numerous times to give them up and it's been horrible every time.  I can hold out for a couple of months and then I give up.  The worst part is that I can't sleep - I wake up every hour all night.  Can you say non-functional?

OMG - the hot flashes have been crazy for me the last month! We are having sub zero temps the next few days and I am actually looking forward to it....

I have no comment or question about the hot flashes, but I do have a period question.  My periods has been getting further and further apart by 2 days (every time) over the last  year. I should have gotten it last week, so I'm assuming it's stopped at this point. The only thing is, I've gotten all the signs and symptoms during my current cycle that I always get. Hopefully you guys understand what I'm talking about because I don't want to get too graphic in the open forum. Anyway, like I said, I got all the signs, except no bleeding! Has anyone else who's had the problem of vanishing periods had this happen? Or am I just losing my mind?!  :urcrazy;

As your general health declines there is a chance your periods will stop.  This happens to anorexics who don't eat properly and it can definitely happen to us.  When I was on hemo for 5 years last time around, I had no periods at all after the first year or so although sometimes I'd have a feeble attempt at one.  I also had the pre-menstrual symptoms if you're talking about moodiness, tender breasts and stuff like that.

Your reproductive cycle is being controlled by multiple hormonal systems.  When you health is poor they get out of sync and some don't work at all. You can still get some of the symptoms without the others.  The same sort of thing happens during peri-menopause until all systems quit!

I had a total hysterectomy in October.  Now I'm thrown into sudden menopause.  Hot Flashes, Insmoomnia, moodiness, and NO sex drive.  Sucks to be my husband right now. :banghead;

Hmmm. Except for the hot flashes (I've got cold flashes instead!), I have the same symptoms as menopause! Insomnia, moodiness and no sex drive. Gee, kidney failure and menopause sure are similar.   ::)

Don't woory too much Karen. Women hit their sexual prime in their 30's and 40's. It's men who hit it in their 20's. It's because we are WAYYYY more mature than them!!   ;D

Good to know lol. But back on topic, I too noticed a change in my period. I am also on Depo-Provera, which causes me to only have about 4 periods a year! When they do come however, they last a lot longer than normal.
