new nurse rant

So there is this new nurse who is a complete moron! I am supposed to get my iron through one of those IV drips, and well he goes and gives it to me through a syringe! I am very sensitive to the iron and I start worrying I will have a reaction. Well it's about 40 minutes til I am done treatment and my TMP alarm goes off. I look over and see no heparin in the slot. I ask the tech who I like Franco if I were given my heparin and he says no.... Well needless to say I'm not very happy and all the stupid idiot says is ''oops I'm sorry''! Oh and he also broke the HIPPA law by saying a patient's name over the intercom! I feel like getting him fired! But if he keeps this up, he will take care of that himself!

I would speak to the head nurse.  Those seem like two rather serious "mistakes" in my book and it sounds like that nurse needs to do some more learning before tackling actual patient care.

Moonrein is oh so right.  Medical errors like that
could have a bad reaction on you, or maybe someone
else this guy takes care of.
I would have a discussion with the charge nurse - when
it comes to your care, you have to be assertive.

After nearly five years in the same clinic, I have a real apprehension when new people start working there.  Every time a new PCT tries to stick me, they always seem to use nowhere near enough lidocaine, then proceed to infiltrate me.

Every time.  Never fails.

I must admit to having a thirteen year old fistula, so its crusty in some areas, so they're not fully to blame.

But when it comes to new personnel, its always good to keep a sharp eye on their performance to make sure they're adhering to your health regimen.

Keep a log with time, date, and actions to properly report him is my thought.

  Depending on the type of Iron you get, soem have no side effects to speak of, but there are a couple that if infused too quickly, cna be deadly.  This is a big deal.  Ask if they made an incident report for the med error.  That  HAS to be done.  All Iron has some risk, but some are huge risks if given too quickly.  Find out the brand.  Hopefully, it's Venofer, very little chance of reaction, ever.

I just got IV drip Venofer yesterday. I felt absolutely horrible afterward. Intense, squeezing, chest pain, collapsing in exhaustion after standing for 5 minutes, and shortness of breath. It lasted all day. I'm a little leery of my next appointment on Tuesday.

Some centers are very tolerant of newer Nurse or Techs mistakes (Its called a learning process).  Wait till you have a new Tech train on you with needles, thats a trip in itself!!

I do get Venofer thankfully! But when it is infused instead of given by IV, I still get bad side effects like chest pains, and shortness of breath. I tried the pills but they weren't as effective. The nurse I was talking about well he apparently isn't very popular with the staff, they have said he's very arrogant, etc.

God, i HATE arrogant medical personnel!!! There is nothing worse. They think everything they do is the right thing, regardless of whether it hurts someone. And half the time, they think they're above repercussions.
