I have been on a diet for almost 3 months.  I have needed to lose weight for many years but I have such terrible eating habits.  So anyway, I have lost 17-18lbs so far.  I am not starving myself, I am just making better food choices.  Occasionally, I will eat exactly what I want with no remorse.  LOL  I have around 60lb more to lose to reach my goal of 135.  It takes time and I know that if I am too strict on myself that I wont continue with the diet.  So, I am taking it one day at a time.  I havent even started exercising yet, hopefully I will start that soon.  lol  I wanted to get a thread going to see if anyone else is trying so we can offer encouragement and advice to one another.   :grouphug;   :popcorn;

There are already threads of this nature.  Did you not see the "loose weight support group" or the "want to join me in exercise"?  They are on the same page.

what the heck, a fresh thread could be good- there was alot of argueing on the other one-lol

I am on a diet- I am counting calories and keeping myself between 1200 and 1500 per day. I have lost 9 pounds so far in two weeks.

I have been using this website to just check myself generally- its handy for a quick reference.

How could you take this statement as him being cranky?  i dont get it, he was simply stating that there were other threads regarding this topic.  :urcrazy;

That is one of the better things to do.  Slowly make better food choices one by one.  Pretty soon the majority of choices are the good ones and it then seems easier to stick with the program.

Do the same with exercise.  Slowly add to your program more and more.

Call me silly, but "Did you not see...." is snarky.  There have been several other posts today that also have not been very nice.  I just don't see the need.

Sorry, if you're having a bad day George.  Just calling it as I see it.  :waving;

I call it cranky too, but I dont let other people's negativity bother me.  Some people are born that way and like to try to spread it around.  I keep my positive energy going.    :bandance;  I come in contact with 140-150 patients every two days and believe me, I see cranky daily.  No one steals my joy.   :yahoo;

Obviously you can think whatever you want about my words, I have no reason to defend myself but this is what I read......
  I wanted to get a thread going to see if anyone else is trying so we can offer encouragement and advice to one another.

I think, "did you not see", meant exactly that.  It's interesting to me the different ways people interpret something.

I do not see how that remark could have been construed as being cranky.  It is a policy in this site to direct people to threads which are already dealing with a topic which is started.
And even if you think a remark is cranky, it would be better for the general wellbeing of the site to ignore it or send a PM.

Keeping a daily food diary helps me.  Write down every bite that you eat for a week at first--be honest!  Then look it over and you'll be surprised, I know I was!  Also it makes you think about what you're eating.  It's kinda inconvenient at first but soon you get used to it and it's like brushing your teeth (assuming everyone here brushes their teeth daily! :bandance;)

My Marvin is going to have to lose some weight.  When we went back for his once-a-month check-up at the clinic two weeks ago (requirement to stay on the home hemo program), his neph fussed at him.  Since Marvin's been on home hemo (18 months now), his appetite has returned with a vengeance!  He's gained 50 pounds in the last 18 months -- Marvin says everything tastes good again!  The neph told Marvin, "We usually encourage our dialysis patients to eat MORE, and we give them medicines to improve their appetites.  We encourage them to drink Ensure to get enough calories and proteins...but, Marvin, I'm telling you to get your eating habits in check!"

Poor Marvin -- he's always been a heavy guy.  He was 395 before ESRD, got down to 205 over the next year and stayed there for five years, got a transplant and fattened back up to 300, went back on dialysis three years later and dropped back to 220...stayed there for four years...went on home hemo and, for the first time since he's been on dialysis, has gained it back.  He's right at 275 now.  Marvin says he thinks his "ideal" weight is around 250.  Of course, I need to lose some, too, so we're going to try to do this together.

Marvin asked his neph for a "prescription" to help him lose weight.  The doc took out his prescription pad, scribbled on it, tore it off, and handed it to Marvin.  "Best diet in the world," the neph said.  The prescription said: "Eat less. Walk more."  :rofl;

petey  :rofl; tell Marvin to give some of his weight to Len (now at 139 pounds). I have lost 10 pounds since Christmas thanks to the wii. Who would of thought that bowling could help you lose weight. I think I like you Neph.  :cuddle;
