Turducken

Turducken: A turkey stuffed with a duck, which itself is stuffed with a small chicken.
My friend Karen is making this for Christmas dinner. It's a little too weird for me, but she claims it is fabulous.

I just watched a special on the Food Network on how to prepare a turducken.  That is a lot of work to make.  Kudos to your friend.

Question is - how do you serve it (them)?  Do you take them out before you go to the table?  Do you carve the turkey first, then get to the duck, then to the chicken? I would love to know.
After I started to write this and before I posted, I went to the wikipedia link and I had my questions answered.  I still decided to post it, since someone might have been asking those same questions.  I didn't realize that the birds were partially deboned, and the picture in the wikipedia showed me how it is served.  I would like someone to do me a turducken, or chuckey.

In our area of North Carolina you can order a prepared turducken from Harris Teeter (a supermarket chain) and roast it at home. If I remember correctly the cost is about $50 and I do not remember the weight.   I love to cook but I have not mastered the skill of deboning fowl without wasting most of it.  The local butcher and the butchering process is slowly becoming a lost art so finding someone to debone a bird for you is difficult.  The advantage of making the meal yourself is that you can choose the kind of stuffing and spices you enjoy.

you can buy them in the meat department at walmart.....I think they are over-rated in taste, but interesting to serve.

There is a village in Italy ( I forget the name) who make a specialty that starts out with a fatted calf, stuffed with a lamb, stuffed with a pig, then a turkey, then a rabbit, then a chicken, then a songbird. They bury it in a fire pit and roast it for a week- then have a festival and it feeds the whole village. Thr truducken is as close as I could get LOL

my daughter thinks the name is funny, it makes her laugh just to say it. she was threatening to serve one at christmas. at walmart you say, i'll have to look into it. we however are having a honey baked ham for christmas.

Didnt they debone the one on the FoodNetwork show?  I think it was on one of them Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives shows (or something like that)  To me, it looked gross, too much work and not worth the trouble, but hey, to each their own huh?  lol,  HAPPY EATING

The white meat at top is turkey, then there's sausage stuffing, under that is the duck and the white meat at the bottom is chicken.

The turducken reminds me of the kidney cake cycobully had, except this one looks like it has been disected.

I ate some slices at a friend's home the other day, and it was pretty good, especially the stuffing.
I think I'll stay with turkey for the holidays, though.
