Dialysis patients, ask questions! Recently, a dialysis patient in a New York dialysis facility was found to be infected with Hepatitis C virus.
My husband was a dialysis patient here in Virginia for several years. He passed on and was a donor, but upon examination, he was found to be infected with Hepatitis B.
Some serious mishaps have happened this year in dialysis settings--one in Virginia, one in Illinois, and one in Texas.
Dialysis patients, I urge you to be alert and not be afraid to ask questions. It is your life, and it is the treating personnel's responsibility to answer intelligently.
Also, it is important to see your personal physician to test for any infections that may have occurred while on dialysis treatment.
