WOO HOO NEW KIDNEY PEEING !!!(Transplant 23/10/07)

« on: October 04, 2007, 02:12:28 AM »

Have been on dialysis for a few years now, and hey the transplant is not that far away. But I have a problem at the moment so I am posting to see if anyone is out there that has had the same prob. All of a sudden my last three treatments when I pull my arterial needle out blood is pouring through the gauze in the first few minutes , when usually I have stopped bleeding within 2 minutes. The last three treatments I have had to hold the arterial for about five to ten minutes, not normal for me. Nothing has changed not that I know of anyway, heparin dose is the same. Does anyone know what can cause it to bleed more than "normal" ?

Maybe you are now anemic?  I know Mike bled more immediately after the needle was pulled when he was anemic than he does now.

Our dialysis nurse said that they expect 8 to 10 minutes for the arterial to clot.  Anthing less and they increase the Heparin.

I was having this problem very bad with my graft. After it had been doing that for a while, it clotted. I got it de-clotted, and the two treatments I've done since have had no excessive bleeding. I'd mention it to you're doctor and/or dialysis staff and maybe set up a fistulagram so they can make sure you're not getting ready to clot off. I hope the problem is resolved soon.

Tamara
I agree with Adam. You should have it looked at by vascular doctor. My husband also has a graft and right before he got a clot and had to have it clean out, he bleed more than normal and had to hold he's site longer. Get it checked before it completely clots. Take care.

My holes both take ten minutes to clot and stop bleeding. Be patient. Today they clamped the upper and I held the lower. It saved me a lot of time and anxiety. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I'll see how i go tonight, and then if it's the same I'll ring. I definitely don't need any more heparin for my 8 hour run, 10mls of heparin is put into the machine and my dialyser is running clean.

Hey Tamara, Sorry to hear about that.  I also agree with Adam.  You might need a fistulagram.  An elderly lady at my unit has been bleeding right away when they stick her and it leaks the whole time she is dialyzing.  She has been scheduled to get her fistula checked out.  You should tell your nurses right away whats going on.  I hope it gets better soon.

Tamara, My fistula will go through periods of time where it will take more time to clot. Sometimes it will only take 2 mins. or so. Sometimes it takes longer. The strange thing is my second needle will always take longer to clot.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.
