Bon jour from south Louisiana. Last March after a blood check it was discovered that my kidneys weren't functioning properly.  A trip to the nephrologist confirms and recommends a fistula surgery a.s.a.p. For surely dialysis is shortly down the road.  In April I had a failed fistula, then a good working one in May. In June I asked my nephro how "shortly down the road" and he says about 3 months.
In the meantime, my girlfriend checked out what the internet had to say on the subject and found your website. It has been a great source of information and we thank you. She uses the nutritional info to keep me on track with this renal diet. Fortunately I had given up salt for years now due to my hypertension. My unregulated hypertension is what led to my condition with my kidneys.
She asked me to introduce ourselves to you so she can fully experience your website. She's not much on chatting but she reads everything. I'm sure she'll have a comment or two and maybe a question now and then.  We've been together for 7 years now, she's 45 and I'll be 50 this month. I was born and raised here in Louisiana and she's from upstate New York.  Between us we have 10 children, 6 grandchildren with 2 on the way, 1 great-grandchild with 1 on the way. Only two of the children live with us, but I plan on being around for awhile to watch them all grow. Again thank you for the website. Merci beaucoup.

Welcome to our community. There is lots here to read as you must have already seen.  But please don't just read.  Post, ask questions, vent when you have to, rant when you have to.  This site isn't only about dialysis(our life is more than dialysis), so take advantage of all it has to offer.
Welcome again.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

Life's a bitch and then you go on dialysis!

:welcomesign; Welcome to both of you. Just ask any questions and feel free to RANT :rant; When the time comes for dialysis (let's hope it's later rather than sooner) ask about Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) You carry out the dialysis overnight on a machine while you sleep or manually every few hours during the day. Many people on this site do this form of treatment including myself.Quite a few people have experienced both Haemo and PD and many say how much more they prefer PD. There are no needles involved and your blood stays in your body where it belongs. There's a special page for home dialysis posts on this site which will give youlots of info. You can find it listed on the main meesage board.

Glad you cleared that up!  By the way, Louisiana has always seemed such an interesting place to me.  Especially because of the French roots.  I love French.  Do you speak it fluently?  I noticed you did greet us in that most beautiful language.  J'espère que tout va bien avec ta santé.  A la prochaine!

I like the Jon Deaux (are you serious?)

 :waving; Hi JD and BJ,
Welcome to IHD and thanks for introducing yourself.
Funny about the gender confusion, I figured you were a "he" from the very first post, but maybe just a dude who liked Betty Davis movies hehehehe!
I hope you get to know a lot of new friends here!
Best wishes,
Karol
