I started dialysis in March 2005. My kidneys function reduced from high blood pressure, after the loss of my first son.
My family has PKD, and out of 5 us three girls have it. the others have no trouble with theirs and don't believe will ever end up on dialysis.
All and all I hate dialysis, and if I had the guts would go off and just die! In my case wouldn't be easy as my kidneys still function.
Didn't find out about the PKD until my 34 year old son died of a heart attack. We then traced it back to my fathers side of the family.
I am so weak, and tired, but keep on going. Hard to climb stairs, can't get up if I get down. My legs won't hold me as I am so weak.
Just found this site and hope to chat with people that know what I am going through.
Right now I am doing PD at home while I sleep, so that has been a lot better than Hemo. I can eat more stuff! LOL
I am 63 years young, married for 21 years and then divorced. Tried it again, for short times and just didn't work for me. Perhaps I just didn't meet the right person.
Have Bi Polar also and am on meds for that. I miss the old fun me!   Sometimes it comes out, but I lost a lot of me with the meds. It is ok because I don't want that up and down life again.
Have been grooming dogs since 1971, love, love, love it. Now I can only work two days a week and don't do that many dogs. It is hard even at that.
I am on the transplant list and have been since Nov of last year. They say at least a year to get a kidney. I hope I don't age out first.
Would welcome any friends to chat about this mess of dialysis.

Welcome to ihatedialysis.com Sandy,

It would not take guts to go off dialysis and just die. It takes guts to be on dialysis and live. I think those that have to live with a major illness such as esrd are some of the most courageous people alive and those that suffer like you on dialysis are some of the strongest willed. The old saying goes that which does not kill me only makes me stronger.

I hope you enjoy it here at IHD.

Welcome, Sandy!  Being on dialysis is a hard way to live. We are strong people, to go through this. The fact that you haven't given up tells us you are stronger than you realize!  Talk all you want, about anything you want, we'll listen, and understand!! I'm a pd'er too, and I love it,
much better than hemo!!!
