Most slaves brought to the US passed through the Caribbean islands. There was a molasses to rum to slaves trade that used that route.

One of Britain's biggest secret shames. We like to boast that we never had slaves in Britain. Which is true but it ignores our ownership of several Caribbean islands where British plantation owners ran plantations with slaves, just like the cotton farms of the US. And, as you say, we sold slaves to you often using those islands as a base for the trade.

But we never had slaves in Britain, so we can pretend this does not exist and claim that our hands are clean.

Afro-caribbean means someone from Africa or the Caribbean,
It is an interesting discontinuity in parsing, because when you use Afro-X, X means the current country of residency if X=US, but country of origin in X!=US.   Not sure if an Afro-Canadian is a black person from Canada,  or a black person residing in Canada, eh?

What the ****???? This post is not what I wrote. It has little connection with what I wrote.

I basically posted that the term afro-Caribbean meant anyone with African or Caribbean ancestry and suddenly it is a post about black Canadians.

What the hell is going on??????

We got onto this topic because I used the term "Afro" and Simon asked me what it meant. However he obviously did not like my reply because he used his admin powers to delete my post and replace it with one of his own, making it look like his words were mine. (Incidentally, in case anyone is thinking so, there was nothing racist in my post, simply a description of a term I though was international, but is apparently just British.)

Please back on topic.  This topic is about the research AndreBR is doing.

Please note that the following post contained the tag"Last Edit: November 10, 2018, 11:14:28 PM by Simon Dog" (which will now have been replaced by the tag telling of this edit). What Simon Dog actually did was delete my post and replace it with one of his own. Although the post says it is mine, nothing here was said by me, it is entirely Simon Dog masquerading as me!

This was an accident.  Since I was an admin, when I clicked on someone else's "Modify" post thinking it was mine (because it was adjacent to one of mine) it let me edit Paul's post without even warning me I was touching someone else's post.

Relevant facts:
  • It was an accident, and I sincerely apologize.   I thought I was editing my own post.
  • If I wanted to masquerade as someone, I could do it without leaving "edited by Simon Dog".   I offer this fact only to support my claim it was an accident.
  • The only thing I need "Admin" for is upgrading the SMF version.  This only happens once a year or so.   In order to prevent future accidents, I have removed "Admin" from SimonDog.   You can confirm this by looking above my Avatar.  I will turn Admin back on (via direct database update) when I need it to do an SMF update, then turn it off..
  • Once again, I apologize.     The corrective actions should prevent future such accidents.

I just turned Admin off for my account and no longer see a "modify" button by other member's posts.

Now back to our regularly scheduled topic.
