Dry Weight dilema

There is a new rule at my clinic that really p**** me off..They will not pull any more kilos off then what ur last treatment KGS were..for instance if you leave at 70 on Mon, on Wed they won't pull you to 69..Now I've been dieting and I also suffer severe nausea and vomiting, so I have been lower for weeks now..so this makes me very angry. If I want DW lowered, they have  to call the Dr  Everytime! So I have my own way of gtn it down heehee..

Even easier is to get a prescription for your new dry weight and present it when you feel it’s time to go lower. If that doesn’t work tell them you want to challenge your dry weight.

That wouldn't work at the DaVita Clinic I visited a couple of times.

Their scale has a paper printer that spits out the numbers.


My Fresenius Clinic is very god about adjusting my DW.  Well,  they used to be, until I recently started losing weight again.

Summers, and I get out in the yard, melt, and very often come in way too low.

One time she ADDED a liter before I got out of there!

I still don't understand how I get that low.  I drink when I need to so it isn't like I feel dehydrated.

Would not work at the Fresenius clinic I used to use either. Their scales tell the dialysis machine, the machine already knows my dry weight, so it just subtracts one from the other and asks if it is alright for it to take off that much. (It is not always, once when I had a bad weekend the machine asked permission to take off 5.9 litres in one session!)

Our techs have to punch it into the machine, which is good, because for me they do not add the rinse to the amount to pull.

Our techs will listen to us about how much to pull. Even those who have a high amount that needs to be taken off, they will ask if they think the person can handle that much. At the start of dialysis , I had problems with cramping and even blacking out. At the end of a session, my weight would be lower than what they had been targeting. It was one of our techs who figured out that they should not add the rinse to my target amount.

I have very good treatment from Fresenius.   I tell the tech how much to take off and that pretty much settles the issue.   When I was coming off .5 low a few treatments in a row, the RN offered to adjust my dry weight.

I'm a former 5 year home hemo patient (family situation made continuing impractical), so they have a little table waiting for me with all the supplies I need.   I just walk in, don't wait for the cattle call, and they always seem to find time to hook me up as soon as I finish canulation.   There were also kind enough to assign me a chair near the outside wall so I can get decent cell reception.

I've only been back 3 months, but I have not yet had any tech or RN disagree with my takeoff or blood temp requests.  I think the techs like getting me because I am so good looking (not really ... the techs are all half my age and half my weight) .... or perhaps it is just because it means one less patient to canulate.

There is always a handwritten number on the orders taped to the machine.  It's 1.3*hours*wgt in kg/100, and is the maxium takeoff allowed.   AT 106kg EDW, the number for me is 5.5 which is *way* more than I ever take off even after the long gap.
