Since last night, a lot of nonsense and weird blocks of grey have been appearing on my screen, whether I am just reading posts or am trying to post myself.

Has anyone else been experiencing this kind of thing?  It seems to be limited to just IHD.

Thanks.

No, not on IE Edge on Windows.

You might consider clearing your browser's cache to see if that fixes it:

Oh, wow, thanks!  That seems to have fixed it.

This is the first time in all of my years on IHD that this has happened.  Any idea why?  It just seems very odd.  I've been using Microsoft edge for only a little while, so maybe that's it.

I hate computers.  There's always something going wrong.

Thanks again for your help, iolaire!

Oops...hmmm.   Still some weird things going on.  I just clicked onto the "unread posts since last visit" link and got some more nonsense.  It seems random.  This page looks fine at the moment.

My Win 10 laptop did that using Firefox the other day.  Some forums fine, this one one and yellowbullet keep giving me empty placemark frames.

I went back today, closed the browser cause I leave it open, the laptop on and just shut the case putting it to sleep.  So closing and reopening the browser it said it was installing 'updates to Firefox' then it worked just fine this morning.

This old XP machine just keeps on working.

Bet my older 98 machine would also if I was to plug it in again.

In the past I have found that Microsoft browsers are slow at updating to "upgrades" in the website scripting languages. Try using a non-Microsoft browser (e.g. Chrome or Safari).

Bet my older 98 machine would also if I was to plug it in again.

Oh I doubt it. One of the reasons I was convinced to upgrade from 98 (for "convinced" read "dragged screaming and kicking") was that it could no longer read many modern websites as they used HTML and Javascript code well beyond its capabilities. And I sincerely doubt it even knows of the existence of CSS.

That old 98 machine isn't 'stock'.  I severely tweaked the registry long long ago.  I would restart rarely and only then if an update to something required it.  Haven't had a blue screen on it for years.  The main reason I replaced it with a newer XP machine w.  That old P3 500 seemed to take forever to load pages.  I ran tests with the two machine side by side, clicking on the same link on both browsers to see which would load first.  NO CONTEST.  This XP Dell loaded in an eyeblink while that old 98 machine took more than just a few seconds.  But the processor speed of this one is a hair more than 5 times the 98 machine.

This machine is tweeked pretty hard also.  I am a retired mechanic, most everything I have I've had my hands inside.  I can't help myself.
