Regarding my new fistula

Hi, i terminated my first fistula(using for 9 years) which is in my left hand. And made another one still in my left hand.

The problem is its almost in my underarm or armpit in which most of my nurses told me i cant use 250-260 bloodflow which i regularly use on my old fistula.

Their reasons is its dangerous since its near my heart. All they want is 200 bloodflow and thats it. I felt unsatisfied everytime i finish my treatment.


Question.: is it true about to slowdown bp because its nearest in my heart?

Is it nornal my left neck is pulsating very strong it moves my skin of my neck.?


Im having my treatment on public dialysis center, lots of patients. We dont have regular sched that mostly 2x or 3x a week.


In this center we have mostly 5-6 days gap. Sometimes we have 1/week of treatment.


 This place sucks. But im jobless and dont have a choice

You really need to know your blood results to decide if this level of treatment is OK, but I'm guessing that you do not get that information?

I am still too new at hemo to know much about flow rates.  My fistula begins within my left elbow and heads upwards across the bicep.  Usually I am run between 400 and 450 depending on needle placement.  I am thinking some days the needle may be a bit nearer the wall and flow is restricted a hair, causing alarms and they slow the flow.

Blood vessel size is not the same for use all, and I am sure that those with smaller vessels may have to have slower pump speeds.  Your Vascular Surgeon should be able to better inform you as to the condition of yours and why a slower speed is necessary.

General rule: 450 max with 15ga needle; 350 with 16ga; 250 with 17ga.   Flow can be limited to slower rates if there is excessive venous or arterial pressure.
