Whiling away the time while in the chair

I've just found a new way to while away the time while in the chair - crossword puzzles.  Google for them online, and you can find interactive crosswords ranging from the relatively easy USA Today puzzle to the impossible to complete NY Times puzzle.  Loads of fun to be had, and good exercise for the brain.

Despite the graphics on that page its a relatively simple yet complex turn based game.  Some people compare it to chess.  You have units with their own offensive and movement rules and you try to attack your opponents base. 

Its turn based and a very quick game might take 8-15 turns, my longest game was about 260 turns.  Its a "free" game but quickly you will want to by extra turns for a few dollars since sometimes you need to wait a day for the other player to make their move.  Generally I have about 15 games going so some turns area ready throughout the day.  Sometimes you get a player that makes turns real time with you but others might be in another time zone so there is a good gap between turns.

Got a few crossword sites in my Favorites.

I haven't looked on-line, but a local paper used to have a cryptogram daily.   They gave you one letter most of the time, not always, and you had to figure out the substitution code using many brain cells.  How many times a character is used, placement within a word, it can be a challenge if you are not a very good speller.   The solved sentence was usually some sort of pun.

If not for my iPad I would have lost my mind during the first year on dialysis.  My iPad has thousands of books, games (Carrier Battles of Guadalcanal is my current favorite), movies, tv shows, Utube.  The thing I like is I can do different things it kills the 4.5 hours I am trapped in the chair. For any one else that uses a tablet after I dropped my iPad I found a wonderful holder at a web site thinkgeek.com it looks like a large spider but it holds the tablet securely, and it leaves my hand free to work the tablet.

My experiences with battery powered items is not to good.   Other than vehicles, about the only things I have that use batteries are flashlights.  Oh, and my simple flip-phone.   lol

What really makes me laugh, my degree is in solor applications.   Making electricity, charging batteries, using an inverter to power the whole house with NO connection to a utility company.     Big difference in big wet cell batteries and the itty-bitty lithium used in electronics.

Since I am going to be there a while I plug in my IPad iPhonr dual charger and keep the electronics charged.

My iPhone 6s Plus will make it through a 3.5 hour session on a charge.  I do bring backup battery and need to use it if I use the phone more than average on the commute to dialysis or I need it after dialysis away from home.  I use airplane mode rigorously to decrease battery drain from all those lovely features like location services.  My old iPhone 5 required a charge midway through even after I replaced the battery.

I play music on my iPhone 6+, and use my iPad read, watch movies and play games.  I recharge to insure I make it through a 4.5 hour session.  Plus it's nice to have charged devices when I escape from the center.
