Well I Did it after a life time of fear of needles and 6 working on 7 years of dialysis with the help of 2 psychologist I finally got stuck today at dialysis   :yahoo;  I am so proud of myself seems stupid but this was a BIG step.

September 2011: On transplant list with 15 - 20% function
September 2013: ~7% function. Started PD dialysis
February 11, 2014: Transplant from deceased donor. Creatinine 0.57 on 2/13/2014

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Congratulations.   Were you on PD and/or catheter the entire 6 years?

Now, the next step is to learn tot do your own needles.

I just used my catheter not sure if I can stick myself one thing at a time

I started in center hemodialysis as a 22 y.o. in 1978.  Cadaver transplant in 1990 and then back to in center hemodialysis in 2004 (nocturnal shift since 2011) after losing my transplant.  Former Associate  Director/Communications Director of the NKF of Georgia, President of the Atlanta Area AAKP Chapter, and consumer representative to ESRD Network 6.  Self-employed since 1993.

Dialysis prescription:
Sun-Tue-Thur - 6 hours per treatment
Dialysate flow (Qd) - 600 
Blood pump speed(Qb) - 315
Fresenius Optiflux200 NR filter - NO REUSE
Fresenius 2008 K2 dialysis machine
3.0 calcium/2.0 potassium bath

 This is not a big step this is a huge step, for most being stuck by a needle is no big thing but for some one who has a real fear its major.  If you are not afraid  it's easy, what I find admirable here is you faced your real fears and we're stuck.  This is really brave.  Congratulations you stared down a real enemy (your fear) and won.  You deserve  much kudos for this accomplishment.  If dialysis sites gave out medals you would deserve one for this.  Thanks for a inspirational moment.

Luckily I did not have such a fear so I cannot relate to how hard this must have been for you but I can only imagine.

6 Fistula grams in 5 months,  New upper fistula Oct 2015, But now old one working fine, until August 2016 and it stopped, tried an angio, still no good
Started on new fistula .

You have just PROVED Both of the above.    You deserve to be proud.  Voluntarily giving up your arm, your blood, you gave up your fear. 

You have earned recognition , this is a major accomplishment.

1985 transplant from dad
1998 lost dads kidney, start PD
2003 peritineum burst, back to hemo
2012 start Nxstage home hemo
2020 start Gambro AK96

       still on waitinglist, still ok I think

It is quite something.  The first time you see a nurse stick needles in a patients arm for dialysis and they say "soon you'll be doing this yourself" you think no way jose.  But then you do and the feeling is a deep pride in yourself.  Good for you.

I had to laugh at the thought of changing your name.   Just a short time ago kitkatz posted something about changing someone's name.   As I understand, it is a pain.   The mere mention of a name change starts her head spinning!    I kinda wish I was there to see that.   I've seen an owl turn quite a bit, just not a person.
