My husband got 10 teeth pulled to finish up - now he will have dentures- but for the next week- he has to eat really really soft food. That is renal friendly. He has no kidney function and is limited to 2000 potassium 1000 PO4 and 2000 sodium - any suggestions would be appreciated.

so far he has had a can of chicken soup with a can of broth-blended with a tube of crackers. and 2 cups oatmeal.  I realize he will not be sticking totally with his compliance, so he will take extra binders, but I dont want him to overdue the potassium mostly. Liquid isn't really an issue- he will force himself to sweat.

What about some kind of fruit smoothie without milk? You can pretty much puree anything, but as far as taste goes...

I just went and got my food processer out of storage- he burned up a blender last time when he had the top ones pulled. lol- I guess I will be able to do almost anything with this- he  is already asking for hamburger and noodles ground to a paste lol I guess he won't starve.

this is gross- he gets one bannana a week- he just made a sandwhich with no crusts mayo and bannana- put it in a zip-loc and squeezed it to a paste and then ate it!!! Thats GROSS!!

You're right! That is gross!   :P  Peanut butter and bananas on toast is better. That could be mushed! Just don't toast the bread.

eeewww!!!!  Peanut butter and bananas on toast WITH honey, that's best!!!!  Of course, we are talking pureed food here, so it would have to be bread (white) but NO mayo!!! Eewwww!!

Almost 7 years ago Len (my husband) was put on a puree diet. He could not pass the shallow test after being on ventilator for 3 months. They put everything in a blender, peas, eggs, apples, broccoli, spinach, hamburger, you name it. We called it the dog food diet. Len could not stomach it so was very happy when he finally passed shallow test.

Hope he gets better soon.

Poor guy. How's he doing now? Any new ideas to try?  I still have that mental image of the sandwich with mayo with a banana stuck in my head. Tell him THANKS A LOT!!!! LOL!! :rofl;

I would think pureeing the food wouldnt change the taste just the texture, but i still admire him for getting it down,  :2thumbsup;

tonight I am puree turkey pot pies....he had another bananna sandwhich today before dialysis- I reckon as long as he has the potassium to spare  it will be alright-thats 1 before his friday and 1 before wed- I told him after going the weekend 1 on monday might not be too smart,

apparently alot of southern people like it with mayo but i still think its yucky  :P

yeah he's doing fine- I started to panic at first, he'll get through it-he might get tired of the selection though, his renal diet is really strict, otherwise his labs go haywire.

I admire your husband for eating anything pureed.  Rob would be an absolute bear!  How about pureeing tuna fish?

Wife to Rob who is currently doing Nx Stage Home Hemo Dialysis.

11/17/09 After 4 years on dialysis, Rob received a kidney from our George.  Kidney is working great!  YEAH!!!!
