I have been monitoring the list for a while and gaining very good information on several topics that are of, vital, interest to me.
By way of intro. I lost a kidney when I was 6 and am now 71. My one kidney started failing 11 years ago. Under the care of a nephrologist since then and with meds and closely following the prescribed low pot. diet and such have staved off dialysis. My eGFR is now down to 12ml/pm but I am really doing fine physically----considering!

A number of friends and relatives have been tested for transplant but no match. I am on a transplant list and we all know how that is!

When dialysis is mandatory I hope to be able to use PD at home.
OH, I live in south Louisiana and am a male.

Welcome, although you are planning on PD have you thought about getting a fistula or other access put in just incase?  I felt moving to dialysis was fairly easy, especially with a well developed three year old fistula.  Best wishes for as long as possible in your pre dialysis phase.

Yes, I have had the fistula "installed" I guess that is more of a fabrication but yes it is there, was done at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans.

Yes, its not an object installed but rather some blood plumbing moved around... Best of luck.  Also Kristina has written a good bit about her efforts to stay off of dialysis for 30 years by eating right (just recently she started dialysis).  If you are looking for pointers or ideas of how you might eat better for your kidney to prolong its life you might search for some of her posts.
