AV Graft Problem

After a bit of an accident from roughhousing people, I fell very hard on my right arm with AV graft.  My arm is feeling kind of numb and my elbow/forearm is developing a huge purple bruise/splotch.  It's very tender to touch.  I don't know if I'm being over-concerned with the symptoms and pain.  Meaning, is it more than it is because I am worried about my graft.  Has anything like this happened to anyone and would you go right to urgent care?  I have dialysis on Monday so I thought I would wait until then.  Urgent care clinic with knowledgeable vascular center is 2 hrs away.  Thanks.

Are you able to call your dialysis clinic and ask their advice? Here we have an after hours number to call.

Is the pain and swelling near the graft? How does the area feel right around the graft? I might almost be more worried about a fracture. You could easily have broken a bone in your arm. I would say make the drive. Have someone drive you if you can.

I ended up going to the clinic.  I started vomiting out of the blue so it was best to go.  There was a blood clot that had to be flushed and a fracture.  The doctor put it in a slab type of cast  / splint (sp?) so I can use the graft.  Any one use one of these before?  Yay or nay?  The doc said I need to watch now for infection.  Call me stupid (as I am with these things) but I don't see how the two can be related.

I have to wait until D in a few hours to get my painkiller prescription.  Very stupid rules here.  No idea how I am going to get through the session today.  At least I can use my fingers to get work done.  Besides a blood clot, I am relieved my graft seems fine.

I think he mentioned infection because with the cast so close you can't wash as well in the area. Glad you went to the doctor. Sorry to hear about the fracture. Take care of yourself.
