Thinking of canceling my trip to Peru

My father, son and I had planned to go to Peru in late May to early June. My father has a funeral ceremony scheduled for my mother that passed away on 2-17-12 and is taking her remains to the village they grew up in. Since my nephrectomy on 12-21-12 I have been placed on dialysis (I have a catheter) and will soon be getting a catheter placed for PD on 2-21-13.  I don't know anything about what type of services I could find in Peru and am thinking of letting my father and son go without me. I would hate to miss this event and see my family members in Peru.

Any advice?

It depends where in Peru you are going. Andy and I were planning a trip to Peru a few years back to visit friends and there are tons of clinics in Lima. Of course, you would have to self-pay but the treatment costs averaged about $100-$150 per session; not too unmanageable. I used to have a link listing all the clinics there and their costs but I'll have to dig it up (it's been a while). I'll post it here for you if I find it and you'd like me to.

You do need to register (it's free) but once you do you can search for clinics anywhere in the world. If you click on the clinic name it will give you all the info you need, including the clinic's website, phone number, contact person, etc. It's not the same site I used before but it is a good one.

My advice is to plan on going.  Check with your clinic to find out who you call for international travel and then start making your arrangements.  I know that Baxter has options and I suspect Frecenius does too.  Baxter requires 8 weeks or more notice plus the address(es) for where you will stay.  They will ship manual bags to your destination but you have to pay for them in advance.

I have been to Africa and Europe on PD without any issues.  I am planning to visit South America myself this summer and will make my travel arrangements soon.
