Fistula date is set... and some more good news.

My left arm is a go for a fistula and my date is set for January 16th for placement! YAY! (I guess?
).
I am on the transplant list at IU. I have been on it for 2 years. Yesterday I talked to my doctor and she suggested I get on the St. Vincent Hospital list. She explained to me that their waiting list is 10x shorter than IU. I called them today, and I am scheduled to see the surgeon and doctors, social workers, and dietician from there at the end of January... I told them how long I was on IU's list and they were shocked. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I assume I may receive my first transplant a lot sooner than I expected?
They seem much more caring and patient, and willing to answer any questions, unlike IU who never call back, and don't send me updates on my status...
Does anyone know the average waiting time is for a cadaver kidney recently?

It just depends on where you live. Hang in there. I think being multi-listed is the best.

I don't think I'll ever understand how lists work in the States... too many lists... here, the lists are regional, and they've only just started a national list for hard to match patents, which I'm waiting to see the surgeon to get on..

As far as I know you CAN go to 2 transplant centers around here, because I checked on 2, myself! One did ultimately deny me, but both were working to see if I could be on both. (one was IU... they are the ones that denied me, but I am listed in Peoria. inactive though)
IU had said the average wait time for us was about 3-5 years for type O. It depends on so many different things, though. It could be shorter or longer depending on your needs.
Ive heard places like California are 9 years for type O...
If your up for a drive, I have heard the wait times in Wisconsin are really really short, like... months... depending on your type. (there was a guy who was listed less than 6 mos and got one there, at my old clinic)

Thanks all!
I will ask them when I go for "orientation". They told me that their list was 6-1 yr. I've been on IU for 2 years already, and haven't heard anything at all from them. I hope I can find one sooner, or at least a cross-match type plan? I miscarried before my son and it caused me to have an antibody in my blood now. So I am A positive but that antibody makes it more difficult to find a close match.
We shall see. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!!
