Hi guys!  I want to get a medical ID bracelet, I think I am due for one by now!  I've been looking around websites but I can't seem to find any that I like, or are cheap.  I know I'll probably have to get one engraved via website, but I want to make my own bracelet to go with it, so it's cheaper.  Any suggestions on who or what websites have cheap pendants that are able to be engraved?

Even though I have gone through so much with ESRD, my son is my inspiration to keep going.  He was delievered at 28 weeks weighing 1 lb 12 oz and today he is a fun-loving 1 year old, whom I love with all my heart!

Diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome Age 13- 1996 Unknown Cause. 35% functioning of both kidneys.
Stable until Age 27; complications with pregnancy, loss of 25% function. (Current functioning is between 5-7%).
December 3, 2010- PD Catheter Placed on Left Side
March 2011- PD Catheter Removal (Due to malfunction)
April 2011- PD Catheter Placement on Right Side
April 2011- Surgery to adjust Catheter and "tacking of fatty tissue"
May 2011- CCPD Started
October 2012- Infection of PD catheter.  PD Cath. removal surgery. Perma-Cath. Placed for Hemodialysis.
Hemodialysis started October 12, 2012.
January 16 2013- First Fistula
On Transplant List in Indiana, awaiting 1st Transplant at IU Health in Indianapolis.

There was a time when the Kidney Foundation here in Canada would pay for your first Medic Alert bracelet.. whether they still do it, I don't know.  It's possible that their American counterparts may do the same.  It could help with the cost

I use Medic Alert. It makes me feel the most secure because you enter all your meds and doctors online and the people treating you can call the number and get the info. The yearly fee is not bad. I have a bracelet that costs around $100 but it lasts for 10 years. There are a lot of bracelet types available now and many are cheaper. Go on the website. I had to get one they call large. Mine says Kidney Transplant Immune Suppressed Allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins. That was too much for the small. Some people advise to put your doc name on the bracelet. Don't do that because if that changes you need a new bracelet. The people on the phone are very helpful. Just measure your wrist first.

I feel very secure having it and I only take it off if I'm admitted to the hospital. I think you can do it for a reasonable cost.

I also use Medic Alert and just have the basic bracelet with 4 lines of information on it. They had a deal going where you buy one, get a second one for 1/2 off, so I got two. One is a spare, just in case.

I also have MedicAlert due to the need of constant updates of medications. When I got mine due to dialysis, somehow the social worker  made it where I do not have to pay any yearly dues. I just have to pay for new bracelets/ necklace/ usb/ watch, or whatever else they have a choice of. You can also get a wallet card with each update or print a paper copy.

   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye

Try 911dogtags.com. They are very reasonable. I got Frank a medical dogtag for about $12 shipping inc with 4 lines of engraving. It looks like the bracelets start at around $6. They come pretty quick too.

Try survivalstraps.com they have a line of paracord bracelets with medical ID tag attached.  Good company to deal with.

The last one I got, my pharmacist ordered it for me. I don't remember the name of the company. I need to update. Doesn't have anything on there about ESRD.

I just bought a couple bracelets from http://www.americanmedical-id.com/ and they were pretty reasonably priced. Buy one and you get half off the second one, so I have a back up if I dont want to wear my bulky sports band.  :2thumbsup;

I need a new one.  The one that I have says "kidney transplant, immunosuppression" so it's a tad out of date. *L*  I took it off cuz the kitty was using it as a chew toy, and a way to get her claws into my arm.  I didn't want her little toofies to hurt or my arm to be scratched to bits

I was just having a gander (Blokey could do with a new medical alert id and I rather fancy one saying I only have one kidney *grin*) and this website has some really pretty stuff.  It is UK based (but ships worldwide and I think the symbol is international?) and it is probably a tad expensive for the OPs needs, but I thought it might help with ideas for Rivy and others.
