I am very curious whether I qualify to get SSD or whether I will when we  need it. I know that it states you need to have worked a certain amount but I have been working here at home  for almost 18 years since our first child was born. Ed is already on PD. after dr. appointment today I'm at 12% function I have no idea how long it will be before I'm hooking up with Ed.

Do they consider me working? They do for social security (65+ kind that is) thought I have no idea whether I'll make it that long.

Does Ed have SSDI? I believe you and your minor children may be able to get it through him.

Wait, a min. So you and your husband have ESRD at the same time?

Ed is working the same warehouse job he has had for the past 6 1/2 years. He moves appliances on weekend shift at Lowes distribution. The problem is when he got sick in January he was out of work almost 2 months, He had to leave work early to do in-center hemo, then when he got the PD catheter and couldn't do he full work load during recovery. We were already very tight financially but when Ed got sick we've been late on bills ever since.
I have been looking for work but no one wants to hire me in this economy, plus I'm not sure if or for how long I can work.
No Ed isn't receiving SSDI yet.
Yes Lisa, we are both going through this. He knew I was going to loose my kidneys when he married me almost 19 years ago. I have PKD. He watched one of my aunts die after 3 years of dialysis, another live after getting a kidney pre-dialysis, a great uncle (more like a grandpa) decide to die instead of go back on dialysis after his donor kidney died. And of course he watched and supported me when my mom died of a brain aneurysm (also caused by PKD)
I on the other hand was not prepared for Ed. I love him deeply and can't imagine life any differently than it is. We renewed our vows in February Everyone at church cried they all knew what we were going through.
I'm kind of worried about the daily living of us and the kids. It's hard enough on them that mom and dad are sick, but without financial security they may loose everything they have ever known including mom and dad.
