Bob Here.

Hello IHD family.  I haven't posted in a while, I was working on my first book, The ABC's of the Big D: My Life on Dialysis.  The book is now available on Amazon.com

The book is the result of much encouragement from members of this community, and includes some material from my previous blogs, which were very well received.  I take an unusual point of view of our dialysis-related woes in that I refuse to take them too seriously.  If you see fit to read my book, I hope you enjoy it.  I hope you see some commonality with your own situation and I hope we can all find a way to have a laugh.

I was just thinking about you the other day and commented to my husband that I had missed reading your posts. I had been worried about your absence and I'm VERY glad it was due to good circumstances and not bad.

Thanks Aleta,  Good hearing from you again.  Hope you and your husband are doing well.

Yes, frankly I was stunned at how involved the publishing process is.  The actual writing was the easy part.  The editing, re-write process, cover design, more editing, more re-writes just went on and on.

I was just so happy to finally get it out there.

I'm sad, I  tried ordering and Amazon said it would not ship to my area, I'm from Canada.            :(

I'd really love to read your book. Do you have your own website to order the book from instead of through only Amazon?

Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 19.
Renal Failure at age 38 (2010) came about 2 hrs close to dying. Central line put in an emergency.
Began dialysis on Aug 15, 2010.
Creatine @ time of dialysis: 27. I almost died.
History of High Blood Pressure
I have Neuropathy and Plantar Fasciitis in My Feet
AV Fistula created in Nov. 2011, still buzzing well!
Transplanted in April, 2013. My husband and I participated in the Living Donor paired exchange program. I nicknamed my kidney "April"
Married 18 yrs,  Mom to 3 kids to twin daughters (One that has PKD)  and a high-functioning Autistic son

Hi Bob, I've had problems sometimes ordering off of Amazon. I went to Amazon.ca but I guess your book isn't available off of there, either. I'd love to hear if you eventually have your own website up and running, for sure I will order your book from your own site,  then! Keep me posted!        :thx;

2003 peritineum burst, back to hemo
2012 start Nxstage home hemo

The book has sections on Dialysis Basics, where I discuss restrictions, needles, traveling, and other fun dialysis stuff; Lifestyle, with a nightmare dialysis trip to Vegas, and how I disrupted my wife's tennis career in search of some exercise; Working, with all kinds of issues that happen whenever you mix dialysis and work; and Medical, where I discuss my relationship with doctors, nurses, attendants , social workers, and dieticians.

I'm sure many of you will be able to relate!
