Recent research 1/4 of would-be kidney donors are too fat to undergo the operation.  Wow!

Wow! That is so very sad. I struggle with my weight also but luckily not quite that bad yet. I really need to get back to the YMCA.

That is sad.

I know my tx team told me to lose a bit more weight, I didn't need to lose much, but I did and I'm happy I got to the weight they wanted me at.

One in four is actually less than I would have thought. I read somewhere that more than 60% of the adult population in the US is considered overweight or obese (and I expect we're not far behind) which is my reasoning behind that.

I was too overweight to donate but because I'd lost lots already the transplant coordinator was happy to let me start testing ... it took me another year or so to get to where she wanted me, but I'm actually STILL overweight (I've maintained since I donated) according to the BMI charts, although I'm now smaller than the average size for women in the UK and people scoff when I truthfully say I'm still overweight.  BMI charts annoy me muchly, as you can imagine!

Poppy, I totally agree with you about the BMI thing. My husband has had issues with that too with regards to being my live donor.
