general dialysis board. My first appt is on Monday at 5 pm at the Davita clinic. Yesterday woke up around 3:30 dizzy as hell...thought well I will see if I feel this way at 5 when I wake up for work. I did. I did not wake up until 12:30 pm. I could not rouse myself to wake up. After about 30 min I called my kidney doctor and they said to come down and I would probably start dialysis. Well I called my son to get him to take me cause I was to freaking dizzy to drive....and then the vomiting started.
When I got to the doctors I was half way better. Just could not turn and close my eyes. Doc said I had to get blood work done, chest X-ray and talk to ins people. Gave me Meclazine for the dizziness. He said we would start Monday. If I felt worse over the weekend then to go to er and call him. Today Davita called and I have my first appt on Monday.
I'm a little scared I won't lie but I need to remember it is a lifeline.

Hang in there, mama g! The next few weeks are likely to be a bumpy ride! You may want to warn your work that you might be a it out of it for a while.
The first couple of weeks are the roughest. You don't know what to expect, so it's even scarier. The worst part is going to be trying to find a dry weight. All they can do is guess, and until they get it figured out, the sessions can be pretty hard, with lots of crashing and cramping. Also, you may have fluid packed on, deep in your tissues, that will take longer than you can imagine. Remember, the machine can only remove fluid from your bloodstream. The fluid packed into your tissues has to shift to your blood steam before it can be removed. Your body doesn't always do this at the same rate the machine is working.
Just remember - once the dry weight issues start to settle, you should feel better!

boy oh boy,, i guess at least you kinda will know it's time to get going and not feel too hesitant about starting. It made me think, i wonder how i would feel if it were me, even after going through this for a few years w/hubby. Even how much i understand about it now, i wonder how i would react. I just wish you well, and calm, and confidence that it will be ok and that you will start feeling better sooner than later. and ohhhhhhhh boy do i know that dizzy stuff. I have positional vertigo and it throws me for a spin every now and again.. Hope with D , at least this wont continue
All the best and you have my prayers...

I hope it goes as well as it possibly can and that you feel better soon. Sending you positive thoughts.

I will be thinking of you and praying for you all day on Monday. I am so hoping that everything will go well for you. Whenever I imagine that first day of D and what it would be like, I get all shaky and scared just thinking about it. If you are so inclined, I know we will all be eager to hear a report from you, but only if you feel like it. Good luck. I hope that being a part of the IHD community has given you some confidence and hope.

Thank you everyone. My son must think I am a nut case sometimes. The day I was told I would go I cried. It scared me. All the stories I have read about people and how it takes them down. I want to be one of the ones that come out going " okay this is nothing...." thats all I ask. too much?

You are certainly allowed to be scared! Geez, it's life support, of course it's scary, especially at the beginning. Try to remember that plenty of our members have been on it for years - decades in some cases - and manage to have active, busy lives. It's not nothing, but it's manageable!

it was fine to be scared. When I first started the nurse gave me a walk through of the machine and taught me how it works and how to program it etc
It gave me some control at the start since i new what the machine was programmed for, so i would verify it with the nurse every treatment.
I had no problems when I started dialysis. IT actually felt better and not throwing up was great. I hardly missed any work either, I think only 3-4 days.
