Me with Baron von Fresenius

« on: March 20, 2012, 07:02:24 AM »

At least for a few months I'm switching from NxStage to in-centre. Because of all my recent problems, my doctor has insisted I have a break from home dialysis for a while. The only positive thing is I will be going to a centre where I can do most or all of the treatment myself. I'm stillreally nervous though because my first time in-centre made me miserable. I don't know how this is going to go..

I think you'll be ok. Just go with the mindset that the people there want you to have a good treatment and you'll be fine. You may even want to relax and let them help you a little. For example you could let them set up the machine and you just check the parameters before you start. Then lay back and take a nice nap. One of the things I liked about in center was feeling taken care of. You'll be fine.

The important thing is to start feeling and doing better!  :cuddle;

Stay in control and watch your fluid intake since you will be doing fewer treatments. Here is hoping you will get to go back home soon.

Willowtreewren, and Jeannea are right, you need the break so take the possitives from that. You know it will only be a short time. Get better soon Adam,

When training for Nxstage, we were told it was a good idea about every 3 months to go in center and give yourself and care partner a break from doing it 5 days a week at home.  I thought that was a good idea, I am due for my 3 months since training at the end of April, I probably will take a break then.

You obviously have some issues going on Adam.  It is okay to go in-center.  Just relax and get better, so you can get back HOME!  You are in our prayers Adam!

God Bless,

This won't be anything like your last experience with in-center.  You're in a position of power now--knowing what's going on and able to do or direct you're own treatment.  All the best to you.

I had my first day of in-centre today and I hated it. After five years of home dialysis, it's just too freaking different! I still can't get a streight answer on how much I can do myself, although I'm sticking myself there, and they were glad to turn the machine towards my chair and even allowed me to take care of some of my alarms after I demonstrated that I knew how to do it. But its mostly having to wait both to get on and off the machine, having to dialyze with tons of people and noise going on, etc. I nearly had an anxiety attack several times there. I'll be asking my dr. if he can prescribe something I can take on dialysis days to help me relax. One good thing though, the people are really nice. I pray I get better with this, and that I can go back to my home dialysis soon.

Maybe the doc can get you some Ativan or something to help with anxiety. But I think part of your doc having you do this is to relax and let people take care of you. Each time will get better as you get to know them.

Here's a tip from an "in-center" (for the time being) patient:  get yourself a Kindle or equivalent and load it up with books, magazines, tunes.  Beats the hell out of watching Jerry Springer, Judge Judy, et al, for multiple hours.  And you can use the Kindle one-handed.

J. would take something before going to make him sleep. Its only for a while Adam, till you get better.  At least you know what you are doing now.  Lots know nothing about the care they get in these centers, and that is Sad!
