Make me the person my dog thinks I am

« on: January 13, 2012, 05:12:57 AM »

My wife showed me a "Dr Oz" program about B12 last night.  First is seems that B12 has a lot to do with energy, nerve function, and other things.  Second the older we get the less B12 the body can extract from our foods. (or becomes harder to extract) so Dr Oz believes that the majority of US folks are B12 deficient.    I'm now wondering if that might some of my issues about being SOOOOO tired and having strange tingles in different parts of the body. (I some times wonder if someone doesn't have a VOODOO doll of me and every so often will stick a pin in it)

I saw this show, and I'm wondering the same thing.  I'll have to ask my nurse & my Neph next month.

I started taking B complex and I have felt better. My nurse  said that are fine, because they are a water souluble vitamin and if you don't need them, your body will get rid of it. Since it was safe, I was willing to try it. It was't a an instant cure, but it did help. I have been taking them about 4 months.

There are special formulations of B vitamins for dialysis patients available by prescription.  Ask your nephrologist about them.  B vitamins, being water-soluble, are dialyzed out during treatment.  They have to be replaced or you will be deficient.  Especially important if you have megaloblastic anemia, as many of us do.

I would only use the renal vitamins that were mentioned above, I would not listen to anything dr. Oz says, I can't stand him and well that's for another thread.

I did ask the Dr about B12.  He said that the meds I was taking did have B vitamins.  BUT I'm still wondering about B12 specifically.  I think I'm going to try it and see for myself.   thanks for all the replys.

My dr. used to give me a B12 shot once a month in his office.  they really boosted my energy level, for a short period of time, then petered out.  He has since stopped giving them to me.  He gave me NEPHROCAPS, which I take 4 x per week and they have Vitamin B in them, but not B12 specifically.
