OK. This may or may not be a problem. Sometimes when you take off the cap and hook up, some of the iodine is in the tube and mixes with your drain fluid. This should be temporary and eventually should run clear. As long as the fluid isn't cloudy, like grapefruit juice, take a breath and call your nurse when you can. Some people have mentioned on here getting some blood in the fluid when they are ovulating. (Sorry I didn't check your profile, don't know if that could be a problem for you.) If you get bad pain, esp with a fever, you may have to go to the ER. But a one-time occurrence, make sure you remember to mention it to your nurse when you see her.

i know the iodine, but i drained about 700, and it is all scarlet red... in the bag it looks like duck sauce from the chinese restraunts lol... when i ovulate, i notice that its pink... this isnt like that its so much darker. i have no pain noe fever, i dnt have that crappy feeling tht comes with an infection <had 8 before so im familiar> im gonna seee what it looks like over night if its still as red im gonna call the nurse that covering

I agree with your plan. The iodine 'show' at start is pretty normal, but your outflow being red might be a concern. Save the bag until you talk with them this morning.

When I had peritonitis, I had cramping that felt like I needed to go to the bathroom, and I didn't have a fever until I actually started to get sick.  My bags were also clear, so I didn't know what the problem was.  I went to the ER, and they told me I had gallstones.  I suffered, untreated, for almost a week.  I think that's part of the reason I'm on hemo now.

If you are still cramping,I'd go to the ER, and take the bag with you.  A bloody bag can be a sign of infection as well.

Hi Bleija...

Just a quick suggestion... Gentlemen, close your eyes... Are you still having periods???... A good friend of mine gets symptoms like yours around period time... It turned out she had a patch of endometriosis outside of her uterus and that was the cause of the 'show'... Might be worth noting this episode on your calender, and see what happens next month....

Really glad things appear to have sorted themselves out.....

God bless...

Did you happen to lift anything heavier than normal;??  Used to happen to hubby almost every time he lifted something.

i have been out of work, bc i was on hemo and really weak, and i finally went back on thurs, im wondering it it had something to do with thta... but im a server and i ddnt feel like i lifted anything heavy.... i know about a couple days b4 my period i will get a pink drain, but this wqas red red. i usually dnt turn colors during though. i worked a double on thurs, so i want to blame it on that, but then i dnt want to admitt that because my hubby and my boss prolly wouldnt let me go back, we dont want to take any chances with messing my pd up again. no cramping no pain no fever or anything. im still gonnna ask my nurse tom tho

Sometimes when Im more active or do something a bit more strenuous than usual I will see some bloody drainage in my drain bag. Also if its that "time of the month" there is some bloody drainage as well. My Nurse says this is not unusual and not cause for alarm as long as the drainage is still clear.

well every drain has been clear since, there was too much blood for me to really tell if it was clear or not. i havnt had it happen again and no symptoms of peritonitis so my nurse and i think it was a fluke, it just really freaked me out bc it was really red

Well Im glad everything has been ok since then. The first time I had a drain bag filled with bright red fluid, I also kind of freaked out and called my nurse. But its better to be extra cautious and check in :)

normally i would have called bc my nurse yells at me when i dont. but i have never met the woman who was covering, she is the center director and i was told she was a PD nurse, but I really jjust did not want to bother her since i ddnt know if it was a big deal or not. But im doing good now, food is tasting good again and i feel good again...  ;)
