Hi there rileysmom! When I had my PD cath placed, I was up and moving that afternoon. The vascular surgeon had me on a 10 pound max weight limit for 6 weeks. Other than that, it was about the least bothersome procedure I've been through. The surgery takes about an hour and a half, you will think it lasts 5 seconds  :rofl;

HTH.

HTH
thanks for the info, my surgeon told me he didnt want me to lift anything for a few weeks especially my five year old (she's a peanut at only 30lbs).. i do know that my pd nurse wants me to come in the next day to get flushed out.how soon after you had your cath put in did you start the actual pd?  also do you know how long it takes to get ssid? seeing i cant do my job .. my company wont let me work while on pd... i am a flight attendant and travel oversees so i am on that dirty plane for over 8hrs at a time.so nowhere to do the pd.

I had my cath implanted on July 23rd, and was in the dialysis center the next day to have them change out the end and do a flush. I continued to do flushes once a week until 22 August when I started PD in earnest. I can't answer the question about SSID as I'm still working, but you might take a look at CCPD that you perform overnight. I'm dry for my 12 hours during the day, and fill about 2 hours before I go on the cycler at night. The cycler takes 9 hours to do it's thing, but it's while I'm sleeping. Just a thought...
