I did it!

Yesterday I placed one of my fistula needles myself after just a few weeks of using my fistula! I have been using a dialysis catheter since July.
A small step for mankind but a huge step for me. I have had a couple of perforations (sp?) and I really didn't think that I would be able to learn how to place the needles myself. But now I passed that threshold and actually look forward to be better to place them myself
So if there's other out there who are hesitating to learn the needlework, just do it!

Way to go. Needles creep me out, but perhaps in time I will become de-sensitized.

It really does feel like a HUGE accomplishment, doesn't it?

I started last week, and I don't know why i waited so long. But I'm starting to get tothe spot that gets a bit tricky. And Friday I'm going to try needling retroactivly.

Sticking big needles into your arm is not my idea of a swell time, so I'm not surprised at anyone who procrastinates. The important thing is that you are learning to do this NOW, and that is a huge accomplishment. You should feel very proud of yourself.

Thanks guys!
Did it again today and it worked great for all of the 5 hours. Sounds really odd but i actually look forward to get better and having a routine in the future preferably using button hole needled.

Congrats. I've just started NxStage about Five weeks ago and at the beginning of this week started going it alone (well with my hubby there but not the nurse). I have done it myself every day this week with no probs. now I know how much pressure to put on the needle to get it in. It's a great accomplishment and a great feeling.

I can't needle myself, because of my eyesight, but I applaud anyone who can. You know best where to go. Even though I don't put the needles in, I can tell them where the best place to put them are..... and no, even though some days I feel it, I don't tell them to stick them where the sun don't shine.. *LOL*
